Nominate an individual -or yourself - to envision and execute a high-impact project that can spur global change. Our TED Prize winner will have an ambitious wish - and the vision, pragmatism and leadership to turn it into reality.
Every self-nomination will include a proposal for a world-changing and achievable wish.
When nominating an individual, the nominator is welcome to approach the nominee about drafting a potential wish.
If a nominee is strong, and no wish is included, the TED Prize team will reach out to them directly during the short-listing process.
Please note that you will be prompted to sign in or create a TED.com account to access the nomination forms.
Announcing the Prize Winner for 2013!
THE WINNER: Sugata Mitra (http://storage.ted.com/prize/images/carousel_sugata2.jpg)
YEAR WON: 2013
THE WISH: School in the Cloud
Sugata Mitra: “My wish is to help design the future of learning by supporting children all over the world to tap into their innate sense of wonder and work together. Help me build the School in the Cloud, a learning lab in India, where children can embark on intellectual adventures by engaging and connecting with information and mentoring online. I also invite you, wherever you are, to create your own miniature child-driven learning environments and share your discoveries.”
THE PLAN
Recruit technology, architecture, creative, and educational partners to help design and build the School in the Cloud, a physical building in India, designed to try out a range of cloud-based, scalable approaches to self-directed learning.
Contribute to the global network of educators and retired teachers who can support and engage the children through the web.
Engage communities, parents, schools and afterschool programs worldwide, to transform the way kids learn, by sharing the Self Organized Learning Environment’s (SOLE) toolkit, how-to videos, and educational resources.
Work with the TED community to implement various controlled experiments in the School in the Cloud laboratory in India.
Gather feedback from the School in the Cloud laboratory and the global community of SOLE educators to help shape the future of learning. The feedback will be used to create a blueprint, free for others to copy and scale, and a web-based public commons of educational resources.
The Sundance Institute | TED Prize Filmmaker Award
The award will grant a filmmaker $125,000 for a short documentary film project about Sugata and his wish. Proposals will be accepted March 1st through Apr 15, 2013. The winning proposal will be announced at TEDGlobal in Edinburgh. More about Sundance Institute and TED»
