Roll the dice, speak about the topic the number of which you will get (application 3).
7. Quick fire vocabulary
1) give your students small squares of paper. 2-3 per student; 2) tell the students to write the different nouns, verbs, famous people, animals, etc. 3) collect all the words and put them in a box, put the class in 2 teams, one student from each team picks words from the box and tries to explain as many as he can in 1 minute. Give a point for every guessed word. 4) enjoy and have fun.
8. True or Lie.
Great for fluency. Students work in small groups and talk for 30 sec or a minute about a topic such as what they did last night/weekend, their plans for the next week, their hobbies, etc. However, they must include 1 lie. If one or more students can correctly identify the lie, they get a point. If not the speaker gets a point. The winner is the student with the most points when everyone has spoken.
9. 20 Questions.
One person thinks of an object (person, place, or thing). Everyone takes turns asking yes/no questions until someone can guess correctly (or until 20 questions are asked). The difficult part is that you cannot ask "wh" questions!
Example: PINEAPPLE. Does it talk? No. Does it make life easier? No. Do you eat it? Yes. Is it something you would eat for dinner? No. Etc...
If someone makes a mistake in forming the question, other club members can help turn it into a proper question.
10. " Opposites ": Teacher calls a word and students respond to the opposite value. (You can play in teams: one team calls the word, and the other picks up the opposite in meaning).
Big –small Thick/ fat – thin
Brave – cowardly Clean – dirty
Strong – weak Wet – dry
Fast – slow Hard – soft
Beautiful - ugly High – low
Long – short Low – loud
Young – old Furry – bald
New – old Happy – sad
Smooth – rough Hungry – full
Good – bad
11. " Make the most words! "
Write a topical vocabulary item on the board. In twos or threes students make as many new words from it as they can. Possible seed words: apologise, dictionary, September. Score a point per word and a bonus point for the longest.
# 5 Sum-up
Revise vocabulary learnt during lesson, do speaking activity connected to the topic.
Blackboard Memory Challenge. At the end of class, erase the board and challenge students to recall everything you wrote on the board during the class period. Write the expressions on the board once again as your students call them out.
§ What have you learned today? (Students tell words / phrases)
60 seconds (Choose a few students and give each 60 seconds to speak about something you’ve covered that day)
§ Quiz Show Review Game. I make up categories from stuff that is on the test: "Vocab, grammar, movies, body" (changeable). I think of questions that range from easy ($100) to difficult ($500). I put the students in groups of 3 or 4 and they have to pick their category and question. They can pick whatever they want, but the key is that if they get it correct, they obviously get the points. If wrong, they get minus that number. I put in a few +/- 500/1000 to make it more interesting.
