What attracts tourists to Russia?

Travelling is a way of learning the world.

Almost all people enjoy travelling. They use many different kinds of transport: a train, a plain, a bus, a car, a ship and others. I think the most comfortable is travelling by plane. It is very fast but rather expensive. Some people prefer to travel by train as it is cheaper. Travelling by car is convenient and interesting. You can stop anywhere you like and see a lot in a short time. Those who are fond of travelling by ship can go on a voyage. It’s very slowly but wonderful.

There are some reasons why people travel. First comes curiosity. Films about far-off places, books, our friends’ stories encourage us to make our own trips. Another reason is education. Learning through travelling is very popular. You can see everything with your own eyes and get much new information. One more reason is that people just like to change places. They constantly move, enjoy new scenery. Maybe they have problems at home and travelling is a way to escape them. Some people look for adventures. We are all different and have different motives for travelling. People of all nationalities enjoy travelling.

If my foreign friends came to Russia they would have an opportunity to get acquainted with Russian history and culture and visit many different places. First of all I would like to take them to Moscow and St. Petersburg. There are a lot of things to see there. I would begin with Red Square. It’s the monument of architecture which has international importance. It was named Red Square because “red” meant “beautiful” in ancient times. In Red Square you can see the Cathedral of St. Basil, the monument to Minin and Pozharsky and of course the Mausoleum. Moscow has about 80 museums. The most famous is the State Tretyakov Gallery. There are a lot of masterpieces of famous Russian painters such as Brullov, Aivazovsky, Shishkin, Vasnetsov. In Moscow you can see many fantastic buildings with very beautiful architecture and also there are a lot of modern buildings. Moscow is the official capital of Russia, but there was the time when St. Petersburg was the capital and nowadays it is called the North capital.

St. Petersburg is a unique city and I would take my friends around it. I’d show them the main museums which are the Hermitage and the State Russian Museum. I think that Winter Palace and Summer Garden will be interesting for them too. Also they can visit Isaacs Cathedral and look at the city from its top. There are many beautiful places around St. Petersburg. In my opinion the best is Petergoff with its fountains, beautiful palaces and wonderful parks. When you arrive in Petergoff you will admire this fantastic corner of Russia.

If my friends were interested in Russian church architecture and folklore I could offer them a trip around the Golden Ring of Russia which includes Rostov, Kostroma, Suzdal, Vladimir and other cities. They attract many tourists. Russia is full of sights and all of them are worth seeing.
