There are lots of clothes shops in Bluewater Shopping Center in England, so it’s easy to find fashionable hoodies there. However, you can’t wear a hoodie when you’re shopping, because they’re banned. The shopping center owners believe that teenagers who wear hoodies often use them to hide their faces while they’re breaking the law. That’s why the new rule bans people in hoodies from the shopping center. Snapbacks are also banned. And the managers of the shopping center say that their new rules are working. More people are shopping there, and hooligans are staying away.
The Bluewater shopping center is not the only place in the UK where certain clothes are banned. Students at Maesteg School in Wales can’t wear hoodies and bright tops because the headmaster believes they cause bad behavior. If children wear hoodies to school, the teachers take them away and don’t give them back until the end of the term. Most of the parents agree with this new rule.
However, many people, especially young people, believe that these rules are silly and unfair. They say that snapbacks and hoodies are an important part of teenage fashion, and it’s impossible to judge a person’s personality from the clothes they wear. The headmaster of Coombeshead Academy in the South of England agrees. In fact, hoodies are now part of the school uniform there.
Many adults believe that young people’s behavior is getting worse. One politician, Lord Ashley, said: “Children are ten times worse then in the past”. However he said it in 1823! The generation gap will always exist.

They also wear ties. Mechanics and painters wear gloves. Gloves protect their hands. Pilots wear blue suits. Sometimes they wear white shirts. Doctors wear white jackets. Chefs wear white jackets and tall white hats. Cowboys wear jeans and boots. Clowns wear big plastic noses and big shoes. Fashion models wear beautiful clothes. My teacher Mrs. Hannigan wears grey or brown suits, but instead of pants she prefers skirts.
