Present Simple
Rule
We form the present simple with the subject and the main verb.

Rule
Most of the verbs take –s in the third person singular.
· Verbs ending in –ss, - sh, - ch, - x and –o take – es.
E.g. I miss-he misses, I finish –she finishes, I watch- he watches, etc.
· Verbs ending in a consonant + y, drop the y and take – ies.
E.g. I study-he studies, I cry- he cries
· Verbs ending in a vowel + y, take –s
E.g. I play- he plays.

The Present Simple is used for: |
· Habitual repeated actions or daily routines E.g. She usually gets up at 7 o’clock. |
· Permanent states E.g. He works in the office. |
· General truths or laws of nature. E.g. The sun goes around the Earth. |
Time expressions used with present simple:
Every day / week/ month/ year, usually, always, never, sometimes, often, rarely. |
I never work on Sundays. She is always late to work..They can never wake up before 11 o’clock.
