Choosing a career Form 11 Basic

My name is …. I am a pupil of the 11^th form. I am leaving school soon and I’m thinking about possible careers and jobs. I would like to say that it’s a real problem how to make the right career choice. There are many reasons for¹ that.

Firstly, there are great changes in the job market² today. There are many new jobs available³ in our country and it’s difficult to make the right choice.

Secondly, a possible career influences⁴ young people’s future lives, so it’s better to think about job opportunities at school and try to get as much information about different professions as possible.

I’m sure, it’s necessary to consider all pros and cons⁵ so as not to regret⁶ your decision afterwards⁷. I’m sure that all people are looking for interesting and creative work, they want to get satisfaction from it. And if it’s well-paid at the same time, then it looks even more desirable and attractive.

To my mind, choosing a career you should take into consideration your academic achievements and your character. It’s necessary to see if you are suitable for this or that profession. I think that such qualities as diligence⁸, determination⁹, patience, initiative¹⁰ and ability to agree to a compromise¹¹ are important in any profession.

I’m sure that all young people should set a goal and analyze how to achieve it. It’s important to do well at school. It means being attentive at the lessons, doing homework, not being late for classes, attending optional lessons. I would like to enter university, because education is essential for a good career in future.

I think, we should work hard and systematically in all subjects. I am speaking not only about those subjects which I need for my entrance exams but also about the subjects which develop me as a personality making me an intelligent and interesting person.

To my mind, English is one of such subjects. It has become a world language. It offers good job opportunities and it helps you find work almost anywhere in the world. English is the main language of communication in such spheres as science, computer technology, mass entertainment, international tourism, business, diplomacy and cultural contacts. I’m sure I’ll need English for … (my work, travelling, listening to music, watching films, socializing on the Net...)

I think, I’m quite optimistic about my successful future and I am not afraid of being unemployed. No society can do without teachers, doctors, engineers, economists, scientists and workers.

In conclusion, I would say that in any job I want to be a useful person for the society I live in, and of course, I want my family to be proud of me.
