Unsafe Driving
A state police officer (state trooper) has just stopped a driver for speeding on Interstate highway 75 (I 75).
DRIVER. Officer, did I do something wrong?
TROOPER. First, I need to see your driver's license, please.
DRIVER. I don't get it. Did I break some law, or didn't I?
TROOPER. I'd call speeding breaking the law, wouldn't you? Now, let's just have a look at your driver's license.
DRIVER: And what if I refuse to give it to you? 1 think you're picking on me.
TROOPER. Then, according to the law, I have the right to arrest you. Are you aware that you were driving 75 miles an hour in a 55 mile an hour zone?
DRIVER. No way! There's no way I would go that far over the speed limit. And anyway, I'm a law-abiding citizen and a very safe driver.
TROOPER. Are you trying to tell me I shouldn't believe my radar gun? Do you realize you're talking back to a police officer and that's already a violation of the law?
DRIVER. I can't believe it. You're talking to me as if I were a common criminal. You know I've got my rights just like everybody else.
TROOPER. I wonder, are you talking back to me because you've had a drop too much to drink? Maybe we need to give you a breathalyzer test.
DRIVER. It's true I had a couple of beers at my brother's - it was his birthday. But I'm completely sober now, so you don't need to give me that breathalyzer.
TROOPER. OK then, why don't you step out of the car and we'll see how sober you are. Let's start by going over the alphabet. Can you say the alphabet for me?
DRIVER, after getting outA, B, C, D, E, F, G – ah, come on officer, you can't be serious!
TROOPER. You're darn right I'm serious. Now when you finish the alphabet let's see if you can walk along this straight line.

YOU: Excuse me, sir, may I ask you for a lift? I'm a stranger here and the bus has just left. My friend's house where I've stopped is not very far from here.
THE MAN:...
YOU: Thanks a lot. I really appreciate it.
THE MAN:...
YOU: My friend dropped me at the Mall and we agreed he would not come to pick me up as I wanted to return by bus. But the next bus is only in two hours.
THE MAN:...
YOU: No, it is East of here.
THE MAN:...
YOU: I remember the way pretty well, I've been here a few times before. Go straight on this road until you come to the second lights. Then turn left. Don't go right. There is a dead end there.
THE MAN:...
YOU: I hope you won't be late for your appointment.
THE MAN: …
YOU: Here is my friend's house. Thanks a lot for the lift. Take care.
THE MAN: (leaving)...
