3. What questions would you like to ask a teenager who lives in the country?

4.If your parents ask for your opinion where to move: to the city or to the country, what would you recommend them to do?

5.They say that living in the country is better than living in a city. What do you think about this?

1.Let`s talk about life in the city and in the country. Tell me about the place where are you living now.

I live in Mezhisetki. This village is not far from Mogilev. Sometimes people from other places think that it’s just an ordinary village, but after visiting it they say I live like in a town.

There are a lot of four and five-storied buildings, where most of our villagers live. When we want to buy something, we can go to a shop. There are four shops where we can buy everything we need.

If you catch a cold you don’t have to go to Mogilev because we have a hospital there.

There is a poultry farm, where my parents work. This farm is very big and even people from Mogilev come to work there. Also there is a school where I studied. It’s a beautiful three-storied building. And for little children we have a kindergarten.

I like my village. I have a lot of friends here. When I have to leave this place for a long time I miss it very much.

2.Where would you like to live: in a city or in the country? Why(not)?

I’d like to live in a city because all necessary objects are situated nearby: shops, hospitals, post offices, chemist’s and so on. It is really convenient that everything you need in your everyday life is situated near you. Besides in big cities you can find all sorts of entertainment such as cinemas, clubs, parks, museums, theatres. Many people like to spend their free time there because it helps them to relax and brings them a lot of pleasure. One of the most important comforts of big cities is that you can get everywhere you like very fast either by underground or by bus or taxi.

3. What questions would you like to ask a teenager who lives in the country?

- Would you like to move to a big city?

- What is the greatest advantage living in the country?

- Have your parents got a car?

- Is your school close to your house?

- How do you get to your school?

4.If your parents ask for your opinion where to move: to the city or to the country, what would you recommend them to do?

So, I would recommend my parents to move to the country. They can enjoy the clean atmosphere, nature, forest, the friendly neighbours. I know they are tired of noisy city. It will be the best way for them to relax and spend the rest of their life listening to the twittering of birds in the tress and the breathtaking sight of the rising sun.

5.They say that living in the country is better than living in a city. What do you think about this?

As for me I prefer to live in a big city because a lot of big shops are situated near my home, but I also like to spend my holidays in the country because after living in the city for about 9 months I start getting tired. I agree that is better living in the country especially in spring or summer because the ecological conditions there are very good. There are no a lot of industrial factories there. People try to do everything to go to the countryside because only there they can find quietness and forget about day to day stress.

1.Let`s talk about different types of houses. Tell me about the house/flat you live in.

2. Do you find your flat a comfortable place for living?

3.What questions will you ask your friend who is going to move about his/ her new home?

4.Your friend wants to decorate his/ her new flat. Give him/ her some advice how to furnish it.

5.What type of house would you prefer to live in? Why?

1.Let`s talk about different types of houses. Tell me about the house/flat you live in.

We have a nice flat in a new block of flats. Our flat is on the fourth floor. It has all modern conveniences: central heating, gas, electricity, cold and hot running water, a lift and a chute to carry rubbish down.

There are three rooms, a kitchen, a bathroom and a hall in our flat. The living-room is the largest and most comfortable room in the flat. The bedroom is smaller than the living-room.

It’s really wonderful to have a room for yourself. My room is not large but very cosy. There isn’t much furniture in it, only the most necessary. It has a computer desk and an armchair before it. In the right-hand corner there is a bookcase full of books and magazines. Near it there is a sofa. In my opinion, the study is the best room in our flat.

But the warmest place in our flat is the kitchen, I think — the place where the whole family gathers every evening not only to have supper together, but also to speak and rest. I like the English proverb: “My home is my castle” because my flat is, indeed, my castle.

2. Do you find your flat a comfortable place for living?

Yes, it’s a comfortable place for living. There is everything for living, all conveniences. I like the English proverb: “My home is my castle” because my flat is, indeed, my castle.

3.What questions will you ask your friend who is going to move about his/ her new home?

- Is your flat far or close to the centre of the city?

- How many rooms are there in your flat?

- Is it far from our school?

- How much time will it take you to get to your school?

4.Your friend wants to decorate his/ her new flat. Give him/ her some advice how to furnish it.

I think it will be reasonable to surf the Internet in search of some examples of a design. If you choose a certain style then it will be easy to decide about the furniture. I wouldn’t recommend to overcrowd the room with the furniture. There should be everything that is necessary. In this case you’ll have enough space and air in your room. Besides it’s easier to clean such rooms.

But the most important thing about the design of any room is to make it cosy.

5.What type of house would you prefer to live in? Why?

I would like to live in a detached house with a big garden because there is a lot of free space surrounding the building and it belongs only to my family. I can do whatever I’d like to be done in my house. The disadvantage is that all repairs in the house should be made by the owner.

1. Now let’s talk about food. What can you tell me about eating habits in Belarus?

2. Do you personally follow the rules of a healthy way of life? Why (not)?

3. What questions can you ask me about my eating habits?

4. Which national dishes can you recommend a tourist to taste in Belarus?

5. Scientists say that fast food is unhealthy but teenagers can’t stop eating it. What do you think about it?

1. Now let’s talk about food. What can you tell me about eating habits in Belarus?

Modern Belarusian cookery is based on old national traditions which have undergone a long historical evolution.

Common in Belarusian cuisine were dishes from potato which is called among people "the second bread".

Potato is included into many salads, it is served together with mushrooms, meat; baked puddings are made from it. The most popular among the Belarusians are traditional draniki, thick pancakes, prepared from shredded potatoes.

A lot of place in the diet of the Belarusians belongs to meat and meat products, especially to the pork and salted pork fat.

The salted pork fat is used slightly smoked and seasoned with onions and garlic.

Dishes prepared from meat are usually served together with potatoes or vegetables such as carrot, cabbage, black radish, peas, etc. It is characteristic that many vegetable and meat dishes are prepared in special stoneware pots.

The choice Belarusian food are fresh, dried, salted and pickled mushrooms, and also berries such as bilberry, wild strawberries, red whortlberry, raspberries, cranberry and some others.

2. Do you personally follow the rules of a healthy way of life? Why (not)?

Yes,I do. I do morning exercises every day, do sports, choose what I eat more carefully. I eat only a well-balanced diet: more fruits and vegetables. It’s very important to be healthy and in a good shape.

3. What questions can you ask me about my eating habits?

- Do you like fast food?

- How many times a day do you have a meal?

- What do you have for breakfast?

- What’s your favourite dish?

4. Which national dishes can you recommend a tourist to taste in Belarus?

Of course, draniki (potato pancakes). They are made from grated potatoes with the juices, flour, eggs, soda and salt. All ingredients are mixed together, pancakes are formed from the batter and then fried.

5. Scientists say that fast food is unhealthy but teenagers can’t stop eating it. What do you think about it?

I think that fast food can be a delicious killer because it can lead to health problems. Fast food is simply tasty, ready-cooked meals packed to go.

Eating too much fast food is bad for your health because fast food contains more calories, more unhealthy fat, and more salt. It has a lot of additives, artificial colours and flavourings. It can can lead to obesity, high blood pressure, weakness of your immune systemand coronary heart diseases.

1. Now let’s talk about national cuisine of an English-speaking country. What do you know about eating habits in Britain?

2. Do you like cooking? Why (not)?

3. What questions can you ask a British friend about his eating habits?

4. Which national dishes can you recommend me to taste in Britain?

5. Scientists say that fast food is unhealthy but English people go on eating it. What do you think about it?

1. Now let’s talk about national cuisine of an English-speaking country. What do you know about eating habits in Britain?

In Britain, people often eat cereals such as cornflakes with milk for breakfast. Some people like to have toast with marmalade or jam, and they drink a cup of coffee or tea, or a glass of orange juice. On cold days, some people like to have porridge for breakfast. Baked beans are a favourite food of many children in Britain. Afternoon tea is traditionally a formal meal where they drink tea and eat small sandwiches (especially cucumber sandwiches), cakes.

Some people criticize English food. They say it’s unimaginable, boring, tasteless, it’s chips with everything and totally overcooked vegetables. If you ask foreigners to name some typically English dishes, they will probably say “Fish and chips” then stop. It is disappointing, but true that, there is no tradition in England of eating in restaurants, because the food doesn’t lend itself to such preparation. English cooking is found at home. So it is difficult to find a good English restaurant with reasonable prices. In most cities in Britain you’ll find Indian, Chinese, French and Italian restaurants. In London you’ll also find Indonesian, Mexican, Greek… Cynics will say that this is because English have no “cuisine” themselves, but this is not quite the true. Everyone knows that tea is the most popular drink in Britain. It’s even more popular than coffee, which is favoured throughout Europe and America.

2. Do you like cooking? Why (not)?

Maybe yes. But it doesn’t happen very often because I’m very busy now. If I have a chance to spend time cooking I prefer to cook some special and tasty things: pizza, pancakes, stuffed cabbage, chops, roast chicken, hot pot (тушёное мясо с картофелем, овощами), biscuits and what not.

No. I don’t like cooking. I think it’s boring. My mum does it better. I only help her by cooking.

3. What questions can you ask a British friend about his eating habits?

- What meals do you usually have?

- How many times a day do you have a meal?

- What do you have for breakfast?

- What’s your favourite dish?

4. Which national dishes can you recommend me to taste in Britain?

I think you should taste a pudding. There are hundreds of variations of sweet puddings in Britain, but each pudding begins with the same basic ingredients of milk, sugar, eggs, flour and butter and many involve fresh fruit such as raspberries or strawberries, custard, cream, and cakes.

5. Scientists say that fast food is unhealthy but English people go on eating it. What do you think about it?

I think that fast food can be a delicious killer because it can lead to health problems. Fast food is simply tasty, ready-cooked meals packed to go.

Eating too much fast food is bad for your health because fast food contains more calories, more unhealthy fat, and more salt. It has a lot of additives, artificial colours and flavourings. 1. Let’s talk about shopping. Who does the shopping in your family?

2. Do you like shopping? Why (not)?

3. What questions can you ask your friend about the best shopping places in his/ her native city?

4. What can you advise a teenager who wants to buy a birthday present for his/ her friend?

5. Parents usually give pocket money to their children. But some people think they shouldn’t do it as teenagers don’t work. What do you think about it?

1. Let’s talk about shopping. Who does the shopping in your family?

My parents do most of the shopping in our family. They usually drive to the supermarket where they buy all the food we need for our family. They usually do it once a week. As for me, I like window-shopping. And if something catches my eye and is good enough I just have to buy it. My favourite buy was jeans. I like them because they make me look nice.

Sometimes shopping is a kind of pastime and even entertainment for me and my mother. We can spend hours walking from one shop to another in search of something special.

2. Do you like shopping? Why (not)?

Some people hate shopping. Others make a hobby of shopping tours. Like most girls I like shopping. I like to do my shopping at big supermarkets because you can buy everything you like there. They sell various goods under one roof and it is very convenient.. I can say that our shops are becoming more and more European-like.

Like most boys I hate shopping. I think it’s boring and a waste of time.

3. What questions can you ask your friend about the best shopping places in his/ her native city?

Is there any shopping centre in your city?

What shops would you recommend to visit?

Is there a market place in your city?

What is the best hi-fi shop in your city?

4. What can you advise a teenager who wants to buy a birthday present for his/ her friend?

First I should say, buying gifts for teens is not easy. Secondly, I advise you to find out as much as possible about his or her hobbies, interests, likes and dislikes. Nowadays teens are much into communication so an inexpensive gadget will be a good idea.

At the same time teenagers like surprises so if you are a creative person think of something unusual.

Be practical!

5. Parents usually give pocket money to their children. But some people think they shouldn’t do it as teenagers don’t work. What do you think about it?

I think parents should give their children pocket money because in this way they will learn how to budget. It is important because if they learn to budget, they can learn to save and plan their expenses. In this way children will become more responsible. To my mind pocket money can give good experience. Children should understand that they can’t always have everything right away – sometimes they have to save up for things that they would like to buy.

5. Many parents often complain that teenagers don`t want to spend their free time with them. What do you think about this?

1. Let`s talk about your leisure time. What do you do in your free time?

Tastes differ. Different people like different things, different people like different hobbies.

Everybody sometimes has a free time. Somebody prefer only to sleep in their leisure time, but the largest part of us prefer to do a great amount of things which are pleasant and interesting for us. It may be reading, a various types of sport game, watching TV, listening music and others.

I love music, I think people cannot live without it.

I enjoy listening to music it reflects my moods and emotions. Very often when I’m blue, I play my favourite songs and feel much better. As for music I prefer pop, country and RnB. I don’t like electronic music, it sounds so unnatural. And also I like to sing. People say that I’ve got a beautiful voice. I often took part in school concerts.

A book is one of the greatest wonders of world. We try to look like the characters of your favourite books: to be brave, honest, not to be silly and greedy, to be real friends.

If I have got time I like to spend it with my favourite book. I like to read books on science. You can learn many things from books. I am sure that books play a very important role in my life.

2. Do you find it useful to read books? Why (not)?

The world of books is full of wonders. Reading books you can find yourself in different lands, countries, seas, oceans. Together with the characters of the book you go by ship in the stormy sea, you climb high mountains, you fly into space, you have a lot adventures. By reading we develop our imagination, logical thinking and broaden the outlook.

Books give us necessary information and a clever book is a good friend with whom you can discuss a lot. Books include interesting photos, biographical details and statistics, a lot of unknown facts. Books help us to solve our problems, to discover new things and to escape from routine every day life. A good humorous book is an entertaining reading.

3. What questions can you ask a British friend about his/her free time?

- Are you fond of collecting anything?

- Do you like going to the cinema?

- Would you rather go to the disco or to the art gallery?

- What do you think about extreme kinds of sport?
