I'll not surprise you, if I say that man has travelled since the year zero zero. Primitive people travelled in search more suitable habitats and better pastures for cattle. Time passed and people began to travel for different purposes and using different means of transportation.

Now people travel on business or for pleasure. And enjoy life as it is, visiting friends, relatives, exploring new places, trying to forget their busy life. It is common knowledge, that changing one's surroundings helps to fight stress.

These days we can go by train, plane, ship, car, bus. We can also hitch-hike. And in some areas people can ride a camel, an elephant, a mule or a donkey. Some folks prefer walking tours.

The proverbs run “many men, many minds” and “tastes differ”. So each of us prefers some means of travelling. Personally I would rather travel by air (or______). The major reason is that it saves time. For example, you can get to Australia with 12 hours by plane and it takes about 3 weeks to go there by ship. Besides, it is more comfortable than any other method of travelling. Even though travelling by plane is very expensive, millions of people fly throughout the world every day.

Those who are in favour of a train journey say, that they like to watch the world go by and have a splendid view of the whole countryside, sitting in a comfortable railway carriage. Perhaps it is all right, if it is a one-day trip, but with a 4-day journey you are sure to feel different. By the way, accommodation in fast trains is very expensive too, so why stand the discomfort of a train journey.

Travelling by water is popular with those, who can weather a storm, pitching and rolling, in other words, with good sailors. As far as I know, cruise ships provide passengers with every possible comfort. Experienced and friendly stewards cater for the passenger's wants and needs. Meals are included in the passage as well as entertainment on board.

However, there are people, who are fond of walking tours. The walker leaves the dull broad highway and goes along, where cars can not go. He takes mountain paths through the shade of woods. He sees the real country, the wild flowers, the young birds in their nests, the deer in the forests. He feels the quietness and calm of nature. And besides he is saving his money travelling on foot. No one can deny that walking is the cheapest method of travelling.
