One of TerraPower’s primary investors is Bill Gates. Other investors include Charles River Ventures and Khosla Ventures, who reportedly invested $35 million in 2010. TerraPower is led by chief executive officer, John Gilleland, a member of the American Nuclear Society. In December 2011 India’s Reliance Industries bought a minority stake through one of its subsidiaries. Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani will join the company’s board. The TerraPower team includes scientists and engineers from Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, the Fast Flux Test Facility, Microsoft, and various universities, as well as management with experience at Siemens A.G., Areva|Areva NP, the ITER project, and the United States Department of Energy|U.S. Department of Energy.

Another development is considered in number of nuclear plants in th world. More and more countries are adopting current technology. As of 23 April 2014, the IAEA report there are 435 nuclear power reactors in operation operating in 31 countries. Many countries are planning to change their electric system to nuclear. Such countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam are planning to build nuclear reactors. In total only south Asia is planning to build 29 nuclear plants by 2025. Russia is working at the present moment on a first nuclear plant on a water. The floating reactor will be called Lomonosov. The £100 million vessel, the Lomonosov, is the first of seven plants that various government officials, scientists, and approved news agencies within Russia say will bring vital energy resources to remote Russian regions.

Furthermore, several countries have begun Thorium-based nuclear power programs. Thorium is four times more abundant within nature than uranium. Over 60% of thorium’s ore monazite is found in five countries: Australia, the United States, India, Brazil, and Norway. These thorium resources are enough to power current energy needs for thousands of years. The thorium fuel cycle is able to generate nuclear energy with a lower output of radiotoxic waste than the uranium fuel cycle.
