§ International voluntary work camps in general
International work camps are short-term international volunteer projects which enable young people to spend time together with volunteers from different countries and work together on specific projects: environmental work, reconstruction of historical buildings, renovation of youth centers, organizing cultural events and festivals, leisure activities for children or work with handicapped or elderly people.
As the work camps are international, the participants should be tolerant about other cultures and ways of living.
§ About the work:
The aim is it to have young people actively involved with culture. After an introduction in detail the first days will be focused on the Romantic Heart’n’Festival, a festival based on the Steampunk movement (literally a victorian-style, sci-fi fashion and literature-based new scene). We need helping hands to prepare the house and the garden for the festival. The main tasks will be spring-cleaning and decorating. During the festival, which takes place from the 29th to the 31th of May, the volunteers may take part in the cultural programme (decorating, helping hands, maybe performing). The programme of the festival consists of various concerts, workshops and readings. The following time the participants will work in the manor. They will help out with the necessary tasks that have to be done – like helping in the garden or maybe painting. The exact tasks that will be undertaken will vary and volunteers are expected to be flexible in the work they do and be prepared to participate in all of the tasks fully.
§ Location of the work camp:
The manor Vogelsang is located in between the nature parks ‘Mecklenburger-Schweiz’ and ‘Kummerrower See’, in the heart of Mecklenburg- Western Pomerania - the north-eastern part of Germany. It had been built in 1849 but is in a bad while still very romantic shape amidst an old english-styled park. Since the end of 2010 the building has a new owner, who tries his best to renovate the location in a neogothic style. With the help of creative hands, a lot of effort and a big amount of love the land marked house shall be made a place of rest. § How to travel to Germany:
The best advice we can give you, is to do some research before you leave. Half the fun of the trip is in the planning, and you’ll get a lot more out of it, if you are prepared. You will find some excellent information about Germany on the internet.
By plane – the 2 best alternatives are the airports in Hamburg and in Berlin. Upon arriving there, the best option it to take a train. For this, you can visit the website of public transport www.bahn.de (also available in English, French, Italian and Spanish). You may book the ticket in advance!
And here are some exemplary train connections:
