Introduction
Heat recovery - a technique for maximising efficiency by making use of heat that would otherwise be wasted, eg in hot exhaust gases.
Industrial processes usually reject surplus heat. In the right circumstances, heat recovery techniques can make effective use of this heat by using various equipment or systems. This surplus heat may arise as:
· hot exhausts from ovens, furnaces, boilers etc;
· as warm air or water flows from process cooling systems; or
· heat from an effluent source.
When applied correctly, heat recovery techniques can produce substantial energy savings as well as improve product quality and production levels. Recovered heat can be used in two ways:
1. It can be recycled within the process from which it was extracted.
2. It can provide space heating or other process heating which will improve the overall efficiency of energy use.
