Exercise 6. Read the text and use Past Perfect or Past Simple for the verbs in brackets.

When Swiss millionairess Justine Klaus (1) (die) ____________ in Geneva at the age of 79, most of her family (2) (come) ____________ to hear the details of her will, hoping the old lady (3) (remember) _____________ them. Instead they (4) (get) ___________ a real shock. Justine (5) (live) ____________ alone for many years, and most of her family (6) (not see) ___________ her for several years. PAST PERFECT with WHEN, UNTIL, AFTER, BEFORE

Past Perfect часто используется в придаточном предложении после when и after (= после того как) и until (= до тех пор пока), чтобы показать, что данное действие завершилось до начала другого. Также Past Perfect употребляется в сочетании с before (= раньше, до этого). Если when (= когда), а before (= до того, как), они употребляются с Past Simple.

Например:

* He called 10 minutes after you had left the house.

* When she had done the shopping, she went to see her parents.(when = после того как)

* They didn’t move to their new house until they had done all the repairs.

* He was talking to a man that we had never seen before. (before = раньше, до этого)

* When she woke up that morning, everybody had already gone. (when = когда)

* She had been abroad five times before she got married. (before = до того как)
