VNAU began its history as a branch of Ukrainian Agricultural Academy in 1982. In April 1991 it turned into an independent agricultural institute which in 2000 became a university. In 2009 it obtained the status of National University.
About 30 years the small branch has been developing and now it's a large independent higher school. The total number of students of the University is more than 15,000. Now it consists of Educational-Scientific Institute of Agrarian Economics, Educational-Scientific Institute of Management, Administration and Law, such departments as: Agronomy Department, Department of Mechanization and Electrification of Agriculture, and Technology of Production and Processing of Animal Food Stuffs Department. Different colleges and institutes train students in 4 educational levels: junior specialists, bachelors, specialists and masters. In addition, the post-graduation department functions here.
The Complex of Science and Production was created on the basis of the University which includes 5 colleges of l-2nd levels, Institute of Fodder, 4 Research Stations, The Pedigree Amalgamation - all these make it possible to provide a high level of students' practical training.
The educational staff of the University includes 450 readers. Among them there are 52 Doctors of Sciences, Professors and 212 Candidate of Sciences, Associated f Professors. A special Council for doctorate and candidate theses defense functions at VNAU.
The University establishes contacts with some foreign countries. Our students have the opportunity to do their practical training in Great Britain, Ireland, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden and other countries.
Many students go to get higher education away from their home towns or villages. There are four halls of residence (hostels) with all modern conveniences on the University campus where they can live. There is also a library with 4 reading rooms, a canteen, a cafe, a snack bar, and two gyms.
The academic year is divided into two semesters of about 15-17 weeks each. Students take courses in a variety of subjects. Courses may consist mainly of lectures or may include seminars or lab sessions.
Students are given grades at the end of each course. The highest grade is "A"; the ltiwest is "F", which means that the student has failed the course and will not get credit for taking it.
Many students pay great attention to social activities. The Centre of culture and leisure contains 22 groups of amateur arts, some sporting clubs. There students can spend free time doing their favourite leisure activities.
