What to Do If You Have Lost Your Passport
A lost passport is the stuff that nightmares are made from. Though losing a passport can be a huge pain, it doesn't have to be the end of the world. There are ways to deal with this issue.
Passports are essential when you travel abroad. If you lose your passport, you can't leave the country and you may have issues exchanging money or checking into your hotel. However, even if you're in another country when you lose your passport, you can still find ways to replace it. Head to the nearest police station, embassy or consulate. They will help you replace your lost passport.
Replacing a Passport
You'll need to fill out paperwork to report your lost passport. You'll need to fill out the DS-64 form and will have to answer questions about everything from where you think the passport was lost and if you've lost it before.
Additionally, you'll need to provide your personal information. You may have to pay additional fees to have your passport replaced and you may have to have a new photo taken.
To have your passport replaced, you'll need to apply for the new passport in person. Fill out a DS-11 form and bring it with your DS-64.
If you have the money and need your passport in a hurry, this is also possible. Expedited passports are those that are issued in a hurry. You will have to pay an extra fee not only for the rushed replacement passport, but also for fast shipping.
WHAT TO DO IF YOU HAVE LOST YOUR WALLET
We all know that sense of panic when we realize that our wallet or purse is missing. Half of your life is in your wallet. Credit cards, debit cards, ID, insurance cards, money. And if it falls into the wrong hands, it could be devastating. The least that can happen is you lose a little money. But you could be the victim of identity theft and fraud that could have repercussions for years.
So what do you do should the worst happen?
1. First of All, Is It Actually Lost or Stolen, or Just Misplaced?
Remember where you were last and try to find it. You may want to call some of the places you’ve been recently, like restaurants, stores, and the mall. Make sure you’ve looked in all the places it could be.
2. If it really is missing, then call the issuers of your credit, debit, and other cards.
3. Report the Loss or Theft to the Local Authorities. Some information the police may ask you includes:
· Where and when you believe you lost your wallet
· What was actually in the wallet (amount of money, credit cards etc.)
· A description of the wallet itself
· If stolen, any suspects or a description of anyone suspicious
When you’ve finished filing the report, keep a copy for your records.
