Talk about different attitudes to the role of the husband and the wife in a family.

In the old days the husband was the husband and the wife was the wife and they had their own way of going on. Her job was to look after him.

Nowadays many people think that husbands stay more in the home and have more interests in the home. Some husbands as well as doing much of the heavy work like carring the coals and empting the rubbish, act as assistants to their wives for at least part of the day. For example, they wash-up the dishes every night and lay the breakfast for the morning, hoover around for their wives while they do a bit of washing or polish the floors and help to make the beds at the weekends and during the week take the dog out for one of his twice-daily walks.

But some people are convinced that most men are idle, useless washouts when it comes to help about the house. When they do decide to do a few jobs around the house they only pick the ones they enjoy. They refuse to do any boring jobs like cleaning the loo, changing the sheets, doing the ironing or cooking dinner. But if they are in the mood they don’t mind doing a bit of gardening or carving the roast. And it’s not too difficult coaxing them into their favourite “chore”-mixing drinks and entertaining guests. According to a survey, the lady of the house does three-quarters of the boring household jobs…even if she has a full-time job.

But surprisingly the women don’t seem to worry. Only 20 per cent said they would like more help, 75 per cent were satisfied and the remaining 5 per cent said they would rather their man didn’t bother.

Many women preferred to use more electrical appliances to make up for male laziness.

To my mind all houseworks has to be shared and done by a person who has free time at the moment, no matter if it’s a husband or a wife.

Compare the average Belarusian and the average British family.

It is difficult to compare the families in Bel.and GB.I know more about Bel. And what I know is based on my experience. As far as britain is concerned, I can only rely on the information I received from the textbook.

There are some similarities as well as some differences between an average Belarussian and an average British family.

I’d like to start with similarities. In an average British family and Belarussian family there are usually two children and a pet, a cat or a dog. The children go to state schools. In both countries a husband and a wife usually work. The most popular entertainment is watching TV or video, visiting friends or going to the cinema. The most popular sports in both countries are fishing and football.

There are also some differences. An average British family lives in a semi-detached house with a garden which is situated in the suburbs of a large town. If a family in Belarus has a garden it’s usually near a country house out of town. British people usually get to work by car, while the Belarussians use public transport. The time when work and school start differ a little. In Britain they start at 9 in the morning while in Belarus – at 8. In Britain women go to work to socialize with people and just to get out of the house. In our country women work to make their contribution to a family budget. British people go out to restaurants more often than people in Belarus.

I think that every country has it’s own type of the family and it will be different from the other.

3.Describe Annie Light’s personality.Did she have any chance to live different life? Was she a weak submissive creature?

Annie Light is a main character of the story “Mother”. She had a rather difficult destiny with a lot of disappointments and failures.

When Ann was about thirteen years old her mother was taken ill, so the girl had to leave school for good. There was probably no one less capable of bringing up 5 husky brothers than this scatter-brained, half grown girl.

And she did what she could. It characterises her as a generous, tolerant and wise person. She was fully devoted to her family. That was great.Later, when the boys grew up, she spent several odd years in the village pub, helping her father to look after it.

Later she married a widower with two children. The marriage was unsuccesful, because her husband had left her with his children and some more on her own.But she managed to come with the difficulties. Was she a weak submissive creature?

Of course I disagree with this statement. I think she had good qualities and was a person of strong character and I admire her for that. I agree that she had a chance to live a different life. She sacrificed herself and it was her bold dicision.

4. Describe how the furnishing of one’s place reflects the owner’s lifestyle, personality.

The place you live in is very importantant in your life. That’s why you have to think properly before choosing it. Moreover, the way you will be looking after your accomodation can identify your lifestyle and career possibilities.

When it goes for room decoration I can say that this point can influence one’s mood. Improving the design of your house or flat can smarten it up or make it disgusting. That’s why one must be careful choosing colours, furniture and equipment.

Moreover, I think that anyone who enters your house must note that he or she feels as if they were at home.Your house or flat has to be build and decorated in such a manner that it won’t be getting on somebody’s nervesand will be going with it’s neighbourhood.

Sometimes it is very usefull to put some pictures or paintings up to brighten up your guests imagination and to interest them in your personality and life. It seems to me that there’s no use in huge, luxurious things and furniture so all the ideas about them must be thrown away.

Last of all, you have to keep your house or flat in order. That means the wallpaper won’t be coming off, shelves won’t be covered with dust and there will be no mess in your cupboards.

In conclusion, I would like to speculate on the idea of the influence of my lifestyle on the furnishing and decorating of my room.

I hate mess and that’s why every little thing in my room has its own special place and I’m getting very angry when somebody is moving it and changes its position. However, when I study, I have some kind of a mess, so called “work-mess”.

In my opinion, it’s normal if the results of your work is marvelous and bright.
