(Loud music. Daniel, children, animals all celebrating.)

Miranda: Shoo, get out! Get out!

Daniel: Hey, Miranda! What's up? You're home early,

girl-friend. Having a birthday in the house! Miranda: What the hell is going on around here? Daniel: Don't get mad, Honey. Listen you're home a little

early I would have had everything cleaned up before

you got home. Honey, what are you looking for?

I would be careful. That pony's had a lot of water.

Daniel: Miranda:

Daniel: Miranda:

(music switched). Party's over. Oh that's great!

She called you to bust up the party.

Don't you dare make me out to be a monster,

Daniel, don't you dare! You have all the fun -1 get

what's left over.

Oh! You chose the career, Mrs Hillard!

I had no choices, Daniel! I had no choices. Even

when I try to do something, you always have to do it

ten times bigger. I bring home a birthday cake and a few

gifts, you bring home the God damn Santiago Zoo, and

I have to clean up after it.

Oh! I'm sorry, but that toxic waste is a few party plates.

Why am I the only one here who feels there has to be

rules. You always make me out to be the heavy.

I don't make you out to be anything, you do it all

yourself quite naturally.

You set me up, Daniel, every time.

Oh, lighten up, will you? Just realize you're spending

too much time on those corporate clones you used

todespise.

I spend too much time with you, Daniel! It's over!

It's over!

Come on, Miranda! Listen, we've got problems, who

doesn't but we can work'em out. What are you talking

about-it's over?

We've been trying to work them out for fourteen

years.

Come on, please. Listen. We need some help, O.K?

Maybe we can go to a family therapist. They will help

us through this together.

It's too late for that.

Well let's take a vacation together with the kids as

a family. Get away from work, you're a different

person, you really are, you're great.

Oh, Daniel, our problems will be waiting for us right

here when we get back.

We'll move - then our problems won't follow us.

Daniel, please, don't joke.

OK.

We've just come apart. We are different, we have

nothing in common.

Daniel: Sure we do. We love each other. Come on, we love

each other, don't we? Miranda: I want a divorce. Daniel: No, we can't, we're a family. No! Miranda: I'm so sorry.

At the Custody Court

Judge: Mr. and Mrs. Hillard. Although these custody proceedings have always tended to favour the mother, we also realise perhaps now more than ever, that it is not in the child's best interest to deprive him or her of an obviously loving father. However, since at the present time Mr. Hillard has no place to live and no employment, it is the court's ruling to award sole custody to Mrs. Hillard.

Miranda: Thank you.

Judge: Mr. Hillard will have visitation rights every Saturday.

Daniel: Can't you do something? Isn't it traditional that I can object or something? Your honour, please, you mean every Saturday. One day a week. It's not enough! I have to be with my children. It's not a question. Really, I mean, I have to be with them. Sir, please, I know it seems like a lot, but for me it's not enough, really. I haven't been away from them for more than one day since the day they were born.

Judge: Mr. Hillard, I would like to add that this ruling is only temporary.

Daniel: Oh, God!

Judge: I will assign a court liaison to oversee your case, and there'll be a continuance of these proceedings in ninety days. I'm giving you three months, Mr. Hillard.

Daniel: Thank you.

Judge: Three months in which to get a job, keep it, and create a suitable home. If this proves to be a possibility for you I will consider a joint custody arrangement when we re-convene. Adjourned.

Defence Well, looks like there's a little light at the end of our tunnel?
