Lifelong Learning

Brothers and Sisters,

First of all, I want to tell you how amazing I think you are. Learning a new language is not an easy task, and takes so much sincere dedication and commitment and just plain hard work to accomplish it. I have studied both French and Spanish, and I can hardly speak two words of either language now. It takes practice, and I thought I had so many other more important things to do in life. I did not realize the importance of it, especially in today's world. Don't make the same mistake I did. So kudos to all of you!

Below I have copied and pasted some of the mistakes that I have found in the writing so far. You may recognize one of them as being yours. Notice that I do not mention names. I would like you to read through these, go to the websites and review the rules for writing English. You may use this exercise as one of your Learning/ Speaking activities. Just indicate that you did this at the beginning of one of the activities. Here I have only listed A couple of mistakes. There were many, but I don't want to overwhelm you, or make you feel discouraged. Learning a new language is just hard. You can do it!

English writing rules

Before we commence this weeks work, I would like to remind you about a few English writing rules that I would like you to all pay attention to in your writing. Please think about these rules when you are writing on the Discussion Board, and in your assignments. I am still seeing many violations of these rules.

1. Capitalize the beginning of each sentence.

2. Punctuate the end of every sentence with a period (.) unless it is a question (?)

3. Capitalize "I" in every sentence.

4. Capitalize English, Spanish, Portuguese whenever you write these words.

5. Capitalize Deity such as: Lord, God, Jesus Christ, Holy Ghost, Father in Heaven, He Him, etc., pronouns that refer to Deity.

6. Write in shorter sentences, and do not use a comma (,) in place of a period (.).

7. Spell correctly. Use an online translator or a dictionary

Late work reminder

Remember that turning work in on time is a sign of professionalism and respect for the instructor as well as the other students in the class. Students are expected to submit all work on time. If you choose to submit late work, your instructor will reduce your grade accordingly. If you have any questions about late work, contact your instructor for assistance.

Do What They Think You Can’t Do—Henry B. Eyring

“Most people stop learning out of fear. They are afraid they cannot learn. You need never have that fear if you are faithful. Your formal schooling may be interrupted for some reason, but I want to you know with absolute certainty that you can learn whatever God would have you learn. Great learners believe that. They have the attitude that they can learn.” —October 1989 New Era

Please everyone. Choose to learn and develop a love to continue to learn. Great people continue to learn. You are great people. I love to learn something new each day. I am not a great person, but I know that the Lord expects us to continue to learn both spiritual and temporal knowledge.
