Submissions to the DIY-Film Festival are now open

Submissions to the International Documentary DIY-Film Festival “Delai Film” are now open. The festival will take place on October 24th 26th 2014 in Moscow‘sZIL Culture Centre and will show Russian and foreign films about people and groups who believe in possibility of transforming urban environments and society through their own efforts.. The aim of DIY-Film Fest is to encourage the creation of new activist documentaries and promote successful cases of self-organization in the solution of urban and social issues. The festival is a continuation of Delai Sam / DIY Urban Actions Marathon – a series of urban transformations, which have been taking place in Moscow and other Russian cities every spring and autumn for the last four years.

The festival’s programme consists of four categories:

· Urban Art / Artivism (documentation of actions, performances, films and videos about art in public spaces, socially engaged art, activism)

· Advocacy (films about public control, ecological activism, fighting with corruption, protection of civil rights)

· Habitat (stories about self-organization of people, who change and improve their habitat - cities, villages)

· The "Others" (films and stories on the themes of gender, excluded and invisible people and communities)

We are pleased to announce that we are now open for film submissions, and we invite activists, documentary filmmakers and artists to participate. We accept both finished and unfinished films and provide assistance in reworking films that the Organizing Committee expresses a preference for. Ordinary people can also recommend interesting films to be included in the festival programme. The deadline for submissions to is September 30th 2014.

General partner of the festival is Moscow Cultural Development Agency, part of Moscow’s Department of Culture. The agency supports cultural initiatives and spreads the ideas of people who have participated in the improvement of their local environments.
