ПЕРВЫМ делом читаем внимательно задание и к КАЖДОМУ слову пытаемся подобрать несколько синонимов, выписывая их на листочек.

НИКАКИХ КРАСНЫХ СТРОК. Параграфы разделяются ПУСТОЙ СТРОКОЙ (вот примерно как это сообщение).

Одна мысль - один параграф. Никаких "возвратов к уже сказанному" в Main Body - КРОМЕ ЗАКЛЮЧЕНИЯ, к которому это правило не относится.

Вступление = перефразированная тема плюс свое мнение. Заключение = перефразированное вступление плюс мнение плюс пара цитат из main body. НИКАКИХ НОВЫХ МЫСЛЕЙ В ЗАКЛЮЧЕНИИ, только то, что уже было сказано.

Написать перед эссе маленький план, вы потеряете пять минут, но потом они вернутся к вам 10-ю минутами свободного, лишнего времени!

Во вступлении надо показать свое согласие или несогласие с темой, но не напирать на это, упомянуть вскользь. Перейти к примерам. А в заключении мощным аккордом дать свое монументальное мнение, не оставляющее сомнений.

Каждый новый абзац начинать последовательно, то есть использовать введение абзаца:

Second,... For another thing, … = furthermore,…

Finally,.. = yet another advantage,..

To conclude,… = In short,…= To summarize,…=In summary...

Все слова связки делятся на три класса:

Step 1 - greeting and opening sentence. Dear Sir/Madam or Dear Mr Jones (I am writing to complain about и далее по теме задания) или I am writing to you concerning (redarging/ in connection with) service that I have recently received in your store. То есть в первом параграфе вы должны указать зачем выпишите в общем.

Step 2: Опиши причины, почему ты жалуешься, что тебя не устраивает, обычно это НЕ МЕНЕЕ ДВУХ причин. Здесь обязательно должно быть два параграфа которые между собой связываются linkers и предложения также должны иметь linkers.

Step 3: Что ты хочешь от компании (обычно это возврат денег, скидку на следующую покупку, замена на другое, скидка или извинения). I would be grateful if you would forward a replacement something and consider a discount because of the delay in delivery, or forward a refund of the purchase price at the something. Please find enclosed a photocopy of the cheque.

Step 4: Closing sentences politely, signing off: I hope this situation will not occur again.

Структура та же что и у Formal просто в таких письмах необходимо использовать больше модальных глаголов can, could, would, should, may, might, have to...... если в Formal letter вы требуете каких то акций, то в Informal необходимо с вежливостью это просить и предложить свое решение.

Step 2: указываем две/три причины

Closing sentences будут такие же как в жалобах (смотри выше).

Также зависит у кого вы запрашиваете, если это друг - то фразу должны быть менее формальными, если это организация, то формальным.

Step 1: Introduction + Thesis Statement

Каждый Step 2,3,4 - это параграф, хорошо написанный параграф состоит из 5 элементов:

1. Topic sentence – выражает главную идею параграфа. Это название вашего параграфа и состоит обычно из одного предложения

2. Supporting sentence – развивает Topic sentence, дает reasons, examples, facts, and statistics

3. A concluding sentence – конец параграфа и основывается на том, что заставляет читателя запомнить главную идею параграфа.

4. Unity – подразумевает, что вы обсуждаете только одну главную идею, которая базируется на Topic sentence и затем каждое support sentences только развивает эту идею.

5. Coherence – логичность, сцепление предложений между собой словами-линками.

Давайте возьмем какую-нибудь тему и будем ее по шагам рассматривать:

Nuclear energy is the best way to meet our energy needs. Do you agree OR disagree?

Step 1: Introduction + Thesis Statement (Вы должны написать типа введения на эту тему, вводное, обобщающее предложение (в последнее время технологии быстро растут и необходимо много дешевой энергии, эта отрасль очень быстро развивается, строятся новые объекта и бла-бла-бла + в конце написать свое мнение, согласны вы или не согласны, например: In my opinion, nuclear energy is the best way to meet our energy needs. – это и будет ваш Thesis Statement (ваше утверждение)

Step 2: Argument 1 + Support (Затем вы даете первую причину почему вы так считаете (очень часто это должна быть как бы главная, самая важная причина MAIN POINT), это будет основная идея вашего параграфа и ее вы и должны развивать, например,

First of all, nuclear energy is cheaper than other kinds of energy – это ваш аргумент. Теперь ему надо дать поддержку (Support), описать: что вырабатывается очень много энергии, которой можно обеспечить весь город в течение 50-70 лет, соответственно затраты будут небольшие и стоимость составит намного меньше, чем использование других видов энергии. Привести пример обязательно: вот я живу тута в северном регионе, очень холодно, блин, у нас зимой, но рядом Ядерная станция – обогревает, освещает, да и счета приходят небольшие, так же и в промышленности – небольшая стоимость энергии при производстве товаров уменьшает стоимость товаров. A concluding sentence: В итоге, ядерная энергия действительно дешевле остальных видов энергии. ВСЕ! Здесь больше ничего не надо писать, потому что Argument 1 – про ЦЕНУ, дешево.

Step 3: Argument 2 + Support (даете вторую причину почему вы так думаете: Secondly, you don't need use other sources energy. Далее даете Support: не нужно каждый месяц подвозить уголь, газ, не надо переделывать оборудование, если вдруг уголь кончился. Даете пример: вот по новостям очень часто передают что закончился уголь/ газ на Power Station и сидел весь город без тепла и света целых три дня. A concluding sentence: если бы этот город использовал ядерную энергию, то проблем бы не было. ВСЕ! Здесь не надо писать больше ничего, потому что главная идея параграфа – Не нужно дополнительное топливо. (Типа удобно в эксплуатации – воткнул стержни урановые и пользуйся 100 лет)

Step 4: Argument 3 + Support - (Даем третью идею, (Argument 3) нашего параграфа – Finally, Nuclear Power Stations do not have gas emissions and do not pollute the environment. Даем Support – не выделяются вредные газы в воздух, станции очень надежны и постоянно контролируются. Даем пример: в России много ядерных станций и уровень выбросов минимальный (gas emission), нет ежедневных отходов и уровень радиации в норме. A concluding sentence: в итоге места где расположены ядерные станции ни чем не отличаются по загрязненности от остальных мест. ВСЕ!

Step 5: Conclusion + restate the Thesis – (это заключение которое обобщает то что вы написали в Steps 2,3,4 - In summary, ядерная энергия действительно является доступным видом энергии и решает все проблемы человечества. + restate the Thesis (это ваше мнение в первом параграфе, только написанное другими словами – это самое главное) – I think, a nuclear energy it is our future, I am for nuclear energy.

Ну вот что-то типа того. НЕ надо писать про негативные стороны ядерной энергии. ПОЧЕМУ? а это ниже....

Существуют два вида эссэ которые обычно встречаются на экзамене, их нельзя путать, потому что если вы не поймете, что от вас требуется – это прямой путь получить плохую оценку, Итак:

ПЕРВЫЙ ТИП: Если в конце стоит вопрос: Do you agree or disagree? Discribe advantages OR disadvantages. Вас спрашивают ваше мнение, вы должны выбрать именно ту сторону, о которой вы будете писать эссе.

ВТОРОЙ ТИП: это когда в конце стоит вопрос: опишите advantages AND disadvantages, вот тогда вы должны описать положительные и отрицательные поинты данной темы (но так как мы еще не проходили толком про этот тип эссэ, а нам только рассказали что такой существует и что мы будем изучать его в следующем семестре, поэтому ничего советовать я не могу, к сожалению)

Рассматривать противоположную сторону можно (иногда даже и нужно) но нужно подчеркнуть что мнение это чужое (some people say) и ты с ним не согласен. «Please remember that there are other ways of approaching this question that are just as good.»

1) Topic sentence - это тупо утверждение. Пишем правду-матку, положив с прибором на все остальное. Например: Fast food advertisements result in health problems and extra weight gained by children. Все. Никаких because, due to и прочего - это будет в developing sentence.

2) Developing sentence. Отвечает на вопрос "а почему это ты, уважаемый автор данного эссе, решил что мысль, высказанная в topic sentence - является истиной в последней инстанции?" Есть три подхода к обоснованию:

(а) Ссылка на "абы какую" статистику или приснопамятных "британских ученых"™. Тут нам помогают музыкальные аккорды На самом деле аккорды - это мой личный способ запомнить фразу "According to..." Надеюсь поможет еще кому-нибудь. Итак, вариант к нашему топику: According to surveys, up to 80% of children with extra weight problems, whose parents asked for medical assistance, came to "fast-food habits" by watching TV ads. Most of these children said that McDonalds and Pizza Hut are fascinating because of their funny songs and bright, memorable pictures used in advertisement.

(b) Пример из собственной жизни/опыта: I often see that my 4-years-old brother sings famous "I'm loving it" song when we sees McDonald's restaraunt across the street. Then, he usually asks me to buy him some ice-cream or sweet cranberry pie. He starts crying when these requests are refused and my parents are too kind to him. As a result, his current weight is about 45 kilograms, which is too much for his age.

(c) Сценарий. Тут можно придумать все что угодно например: After they watch these advertisements they usually start thinking that this food is healthy and wholesome, because people on the screen are fit and smiling, and the music being played is funny and fascinating. Moreover, they often refuse eating vegetables and fruits, because they are not as tasty as those "hot sweet cranberry pies" are.

3) Можно повторить topic sentence, немного его перефразировав: Thus, fast food advertisements could seriously impact children's health.

Essays Suggesting Solutions to Problems

An essay discussing problems and suggesting solutions is a formal piece of writing. You should state the problem and its causes clearly, then present your suggestions and the expected results or consequences these might have.

A successful essay of this type should consist of:

a) An introductory paragraph in which you clearly state the problem, what has caused it, and the consequences;

b) A main body in which you present several suggested solutions, each in a separate paragraph together with its consequences/results; and

c) A conclusion in which you summarise your opinion.

1. выписываете слова - лексику. напр, если тема медицина, то слова врачи, медсестры, госпитали, страховка и оплата, лечение и профилактика. основных тем 9, поэтому словариков желательно составить тоже 9

2. есть 3 вида эссе: for&against, opinion, suggestion.

вот коза для opinion (XXX тема, YYY - ее противоположность, например healthy way of life и smoking, drinking and drugs)
