American missile defense in Europe always was a big dispute for Russia and America and it is reasonable. Russia does not want to have the U.S. missile defense in front of the border and the US says that the country needs protection from North Korea and Iran, because the US does not have the best relationships with these countries. Russia and North Korea are friends so that might be one of the reasons why Russia is against the weapons in Eastern and Central Europe. With its recovery, Russia got stronger and started to reply with more confidence. One of these replies was Russian-Venezuelan military cooperation when on November 25, 2008, Russia put its weapons in Venezuela. “…the United States believes that the placing of Russian war ships into the American sphere of influence is blatant provocation and a direct retaliation for both the American missile plan in Eastern Europe and interference with the Russia-Georgia situation of August 2008.” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russia%E2%80%93United_States_relations#Russian-Venezuelan_military_cooperation) Russian-American relationships are going to get worse until both of the countries will find a compromise on how to put and use their missile defense all around the world.

With the Putin’s third term as a president, Russian-American relations got better with the same sphere of interests, but still the way Russia and America act make one think that not everything is good. First of all, it’s the problem with missile defense. Second of all, it’s the fact that the countries have allies which have tough relations between each other and influence the relations between Russia and the USA. And it is safe to say that new reform Putin signed about adoptions ban towards the USA doesn’t make this relationship easier. Certainly Russia and America are going to compete but this competition is different compared it with the Cold War.

A lot of people say that a new Cold War between Russia and the USA is possible. There are many aspects that might be the reason for thisso but the Cold War is the war between the countries with different ideologies and targets. Certainly Russia and the United States have a competition but its not about the Cold War. The Cold War generates a war without the guns and death unless someone is going to lose in the Cold War like what happened in 1991 when the USSR collapsed and lost the Cold War. Russia and America are the countries that build democracy and capitalism in the world and the Cold War between two democratic countries is pointless.

Going through all the years in the post-Cold War period relationship between Russia and America have changed a lot. The influence of America and its domination impact Russi and its recovery a lot. Russia has changed from a weak country to powerful during the past 20 years and built a democratic country. America kept being the most powerful country in the world with the strongest economy and good Civil Rights protection. The countries treat each other different compared it to the first 10 years after the Cold War when America dominated in the World and no one could compete with the US. But having one superpower in the world is not right, because having one powerful country that controls everything is not the right way to build democracy which is the ideology of the USA. With Russian recovery, the world is getting rid of domination of just one country. Tthat’s why some people say that world got less stable when Russian – American competition started again. The situation in the world has changed with the changing of Russian-American relationships.
