Death because of extreme sports is one of the well-known problems nowadays. Experts in extreme sports do not fully understand the motivational factors of people, who participate in extreme sports. The problem of making damage to the body and making danger to your life rises up not only in countries where extreme tourism are developed, but in countries where it is not and Kazakhstan is not an exception. People are trying to feel something new and they forget about risk. People forget that this one harmless jump from parachute can have very pitiable results. And so, the research question of this paper is what motivates people to participate in extreme sports. I made a survey and asked 70 people. They are 40 students, 20 pupils and 10 people, who are not students and pupil. People from my survey are live in Kazakhstan and also I have some opinions from abroad because I create a survey at the online survey maker “Survey Monkey”. It helped to me to know opinions from different types of people, because the mentalities of people, who live in Kazakhstan, differ than people who live abroad. The question from survey had a common idea to know whether people want to stop the problem of dying people because of extreme sports. I decided to divide questions for three types. The first type is personal information to know age and gender of participants. Second type is opinions of a people about this problem. And third type is open-ended questions for writing solutions to the problem. It were founded that the opinions of people really depends on the age and gender. Also, it was founded that young generation are more ready to make risk to their lives. In this section I wrote the results of the survey and analyses of them.
I conducted a survey among students from Kazakhstan University of Management Economics and Strategic Research, International Academy of Business, University of International Business and Kazakh National University named Al-Farabi, among pupil and among people who like sports.
The first part is the personal information of people, who participate in my survey. This information is important because the opinions really depend on the gender and age of a person.
Figure 1. Divisions of people into groups by age and gender.(by %)
As first figure shows most of the participants are men from the 18 to 25 years. I found that answers from men more differ than answers from women. Moreover, it was fonded that men prefer extreme sports more than women. Also the answers from young generation shows that they do not afraid to make risk to their lives, but people from the age group of 26 – 40 showed their afraidness of risk.
Figure 2. Opinions about importance of this issue.(by %)
In the second figure I asked respondens about their opinion is the death because of extreme sports really significant. As this chart shows 30 percent of a people think that this problem not so impotant but the 70 percent of the participants find this issue vital.
Figure 3. People’s attitude to extreme sports.
In the third figure I wanted to find out attitude of participants to extreme sports itself. Survey showed that that only 20 percent of a people do not like extreme sports, but another 80 have positive positions about extreme sports.
Figure 4. The preference of people in participating or not in extreme sports.
In the fourht figure I asked people about their preference to be participant in extreme sports or be just viewer. I decided to connect age and preference of a person, to compare how age affect to the view of a person. As figure four shows people who are younger want to participate in extreme sport more than people which age from 26 - 40 years. People which age from 26 to 40 prefer to look for it on TV. Allman, T., Mittelstaedt, R., Martin, B. & Goldenberg, M. (2009) are pointed that age of a participant in extreme sport plays a significant role “older person, the less likely that he would risk his life”
Figure 5. The motivaitional factors of people to choose extreme sports.
In the fifth figure participants answered for the question about motivational factors of people who like extreme sports. As it was founded most people have a neediness of adrenaline the 48 percent of participants think so. Another 32 percent think that people choose extreme sports like a way of forgeting problems around them. And last 20 percent think that people decide to choose extreme sports just fo fun because their life is boring. However, Lyng, S (1990) report that most people choose extreme sports because their lives are boring they want to diversify their lives.
Figure 6. Main problem of dying people because of extreme sports
At the sixth figure I asked about main problems of dying people because of extreme sports. The 50 percent of a participants think that the problem in the do not keeping the accident prevention while people take part in sport. The 30 percent of participants think that the problem in the natural disasters. And only 20 percent link on the low expereince.
There were two open ended questions in this part and people wrote their solutions to the problem of dying people because of extreme sports. The ideas of all people were similar. All participant wanted to make a ban for extreme sports. They think that there is no another ways to solve this problem.
In addition to my surveys, I did an interview. I interviewed one person, I met with him at ski-resort Chimbulak. He like extreme sports very much, but to satisfy with his desires he schould go abroad for differrent countries to feel more and more adrenaline. He choose extreme sport 20 years ago and nowadays do not regret that he did it. But one thing was suprising to me, he said that right now he do not want to have children because he understand that this hobby really dangerous and in his life he had a lot of bad accidents with his health. He afraid that if he will have children one day maybe can happen something bad and what his children will make, they will lose their father. He said that person, who want to save his life schould be careful as much as possible, pay attention for everything around you.
I was surprised by the results of multiple choise questions. I thought that people in Kazakhstan are not so interested in the problem of extreme sports around the world because in Kazakhstan extreme sport is not developed. But people really showed their interest to this problem and answered for all my question with help from different articles. There were one interesting thing in the open- ended question, while I asked people to write theis opinions and solutions to this issue. People write only negative responses to the extreme sports and everyboy wanted to ban extreme sports in the country. But at the same time everybody wanted to try to participate in extreme sports. The ideas of the respondens from my survey connected with literature, which I used to create this project. Respondens supported the ideas of the authors.
