Transition words that indicate the movement from one step to another are used in process/analysis essays. The following words and phrases are often used.

Exercise 6. Using Process Transition Words
Put the steps in the following directions in an appropriate order. Then write a paragraph on this process, adding transition words.
Making a Pot of Coffee
a. Turn off the coffee maker.
b. Measure the water and put it into the coffee maker.
c. Decide how many cups of coffee you want to make.
d. Measure coffee into the filter. (1 measure for every 2 cups of coffee. Adjust amounts for stronger or weaker coffee.)
e. Wait until all the water has run through the coffee.
f. Take out a paper coffee filter and place it in the filter holder of the coffee maker.
g. Serve the coffee with cream and sugar, as desired,
h. Turn on the coffee maker.
i. Put the filter holder into the coffee maker.
Use this topic sentence to begin your paragraph:
Making a pot of delicious coffee is a very simple process if you follow these directions.
