9. 2. 1 The stations and passengers stopping points that have passenger transport operation shall be set with equipment for passenger service, which shall reserve conditions for development in future when it is necessary.

The arrangement of passenger station buildings shall match with urban planning. The passenger station buildings in a through type station should be set on the one side of city center. The passenger station buildings in a stub-end type station should be set at the end of platform or on the one side of tracks.

9. 2. 2 The stations and passengers stopping points that have passenger transport operations shall be set with passenger platforms, which shall accord with the following provisions :

1 The number and location of passenger platforms shall match with the arrangement of passenger station buildings and the passenger train arrival and departure tracks.

2 The length of passenger platform in a passenger station shall be 550 m. In a rebuilt passenger station, the length of certain platform may be 400 m under especially difficult conditions. The length of platform to receive and despatch short-distance and suburban passenger trains may be determined according to the actual length of short-distance and suburban passenger trains. The length of platform in a stub-end type station adopting stub-end tracks shall be added with the necessary length of locomotives and the length for inbound and outbound locomotive.

The length of passenger platform in other stations shall be determined according to

passenger traffic flow in the near future and actual situations,but it should be no less than 300 m. In the station and passenger stopping points located in rarely populated areas or with less passenger traffic, the length of passenger platform may be shorter accordingly.

3 The width of passenger platform shall be determined according to passenger traffic density, luggage carrying tools,buildings on platform and section design speed and other factors, l)The widths of basic passenger platforms: within the range of passenger station buildings and other larger buildings, the distance from the projection edge of buildings to platform edge should be 20'—25 m in a passenger station; it should be 8 — 20 m in other stations; and it shall be no less than 6 m in an intermediate station under difficult conditions. It should be no less than the width of intermediate platform in other sections; the intermediate platform shall be no less than 4 m under difficult conditions. 2)The widths of intermediate passenger platforms: when with platform bridges and underground paths with approach ramps at both ends, in a large-sized passenger station it shall be no less than 11. 5 m,or no less than 10. 5 m in an ordinary passenger station;it shall be no less than 8. 5 m in other stations,but it shall be no less than 9 m in a station with approach ramp at one end;it shall be no less than 6 m when only a platform canopy is needed. When a station has no platform bridge, underground path or platform canopy, the widths of intermediate platforms in a single-track intermediate station and double-track intermediate station shall be no less than 4m and 5 m respectively. When the design speed in a section is 120 km/h and above,the intermediate platform on the side adjacent to main track for passing trains shall be 0. 5 m wider than the said width. When an intermediate platform is set outside of the outmost arrival and departure track,its width may be reduced accordingly. It may be determined according to actual situ­ations in a rebuilt station under especially difficult conditions. 3)When there are entrance and exit for platform bridge or underground path,house and other buildings set on a passenger platform, the distance from platform edge to building edge shall be no less than 3 m in a passenger station;it shall be no less than 2. 5 m in other stations. This distance shall be no less than 2 m on one side in a rebuilt station under difficult conditions. When the design speed in a section is 120 km/h and above, the intermediate platform on the side adjacent to main track for passing trains shall be 0. 5 m wider than the said width. 4)The height of passenger platform; it should be 1 250 mm higher than rail surface on the side adjacent to arrival and departure track not passing out-of-gauge freight train,or 500 mm when it is necessary;it shall be 300 mm higher than rail surface on the side adjacent to main track or on the side of arrival and departure track for passing out-of-gauge freight train. 9. 2. 3 The arrangement of platform bridge and underground path shall accord with the • 46 •


following provisions:

1 Platform bridges and underground paths shall be set in the station where there are numerous boarding passengers and more luggage and postal matters and the passages are often blocked by trains or shunting operations.

2 The underground path shall be preferential chosen in the arrangement of platform bridge or underground path. The arrangement of platform bridge or underground path shall facilitate the passing of passengers and the carrying of luggage/postal matters and reduce cross jamming.

3 The numbers and widths of platform bridges or underground paths shall be
determined by passenger flow and quantities of luggage/postal matters.

1) Number of platform bridges or underground paths: there shall be at least one when the size of station buildings is for 3 000 persons or less, there shall be no less than 2 when the size of station buildings is for 3 000 up to 10 000 persons, there shall be no less than 3 when the size of station buildings is for 10 000 persons and above; in the waiting room with overpass bridges, there shall be at least one platform bridge or underground path. If both the passenger traffic and volume of luggage and postal matters are very high, it may set one or two underground path for luggage and postal matters.

2) Width of platform bridges or underground paths; it shall be no less than 8 m when the size of station buildings is for 3 000 persons and above,and no less than 6 m when the size of station buildings is for 3 000 persons or less,while the width of underground path for luggage and postal matters shall be no less than 5. 2 m.

3)Clearance height of underground path: the clearance height of underground path for passengers shall be no less than 2. 5 m;the underground path for luggage and postal matters shall be no less than 3 m.

4 The passenger platform bridge or underground path to each platform shall be
arranged with bi-directional entrance and exit,its width shall be no less than 4 m in large-
sized passenger station and no less than 3. 5 m in ordinary passenger station;the width for
bi-directional entrance and exit shall be 2. 5 m or no less than 3 m for unidirectional en­
trance and exit in other stations.

The underground path for luggage and postal matters shall have unidirectional entrance and exit to each platform with width no less than 4. 5 m, if it is limited by conditions and traffic indicating sign at the entrance and exit,its width shall be no less than 3. 5 m. 9.2.4 In a passenger station or other stations with higher passenger flow, the passenger platform shall be set with canopy. It shall set canopies at underground path entrance and exit and over the platform bridge in rainy district. A passenger station shall be set with canopy of the same length as platform; the lengths of canopies in other stations can be 200 — 300 m long. The width of canopy shall be identical with platform width. Canopies shall be connected with entrance and exit.

9. 2. 5 Water supplying station for passenger trains shall set hydrants for passenger trains beside related arrival and departure tracks.
