Логическое ударение – это особое средство выделения какого-либо слова. Слово с логическим ударением приобретает значения “именно это, а не то”, “именно такой, а не другой”. Ударение на слове с логическим ударением является настолько сильным, что все стоящие за ним слова до самого конца синтагмы оказываются безударными:

'My friend comes back tomorrow.

My 'friend comes back tomorrow.

My friend 'comes back tomorrow.

My friend comes back to'morrow.

 

1. ~ Прочитайте предложения, выделяя голосом

слова с логическим ударением:

1. Henry has two elder sisters. 2. She works indoors all day. 3. The girl must return. 4. Is his father an economist? 5. The students know English quite well. 6. My friend studies at Ural Institute for the Humanities. 7. Are you going to wear this coat? 8. Must you translate the text in writing?

9. Has he lost my book? 10. I can read the text.

Прочитайте предложения со всеми вариантами

логического ударения:

1. My mother is always busy. 2. He doesn’t know English grammar well. 3. He likes Alice very much. 4. They are fond of music. 5. We can listen to the text in the laboratory. 6. She knows him. 7. The first-year students participated in the concert. 8. Margaret is almost twenty. 9. Ask secretary about it. 10. Then phone me. 11. My friend is a first-year student.

12. Can I help you?

 

3. ~ ² Прочитайте, соблюдая интонацию

повелительных предложений:

Go. Try. Stay. Wait. Write. Phone. Here. There. Continue. Stay. Stop it. Bring it. Keep it. Hurry up. Open the books at page 5. Learn the text by heart. Speak louder. Stop talking. Answer the question. Ask questions. Repeat the sentence. Translate the text. Go to the blackboard. Sit down. Go home. Don’t go home. Be careful.

 


4. ~ Прочитайте диалог, соблюдая интонацию

разделительного вопроса:

-It’s a nice day, isn’t it?

-Yes, it is.

-You are on holiday, aren’t you?

-Yes, I am.

-It was a long holiday, wasn’t it?

-Yes, it was.

-You don’t talk very much, do you?

-No, I don’t.

-You ask a lot of questions, don’t you?

-Yes, I do.

 

5. ~ Прочитайте диалоги, соблюдая интонацию

альтернативного вопроса:

-Do you play indoor or outdoor games?

-Outdoor games.

-Do you prefer hockey or football?

-Neither. I am fond of lawn tennis.

-Is it easy or difficult to be in the sports club?

-It is not very difficult, especially if you are a good

sportsman.

 

-Do you often travel?

-Yes, I like travelling.

-Do you travel for pleasure or on business?

-Both.

-Do you like to travel by air or by train?

-By air. It combines comfort and speed.

6. ~ Прочитайте и переведите без словаря:

8. ~ ² Выучите диалоги наизусть:

А. Excuse me, what’s the time?

В. Well, let me see. It is a quarter to seven. But my watch is

five minutes slow.

A. So, it is ten minutes to seven, isn’t it?

B. Right you are. It is ten minutes to seven.

 

A. What time is it by your watch?

B. It is twenty minutes to eleven.

A. By my watch it is half past ten.

B. The right time is twenty-five minutes to eleven. So my

watch is five minutes fast and your watch is five minutes

slow.

A. That’s it.
