depot, the arrangement of servicing depot, volume of shunting works and the distance between the station and depot, etc..

There shall be one connecting track set between the station and depot;it may set two tracks in case of insufficient carrying capacity.

The connecting tracks between the station and depot should meet the requirements on the length by train stock shunting and setting car washer. When a car washer is set between servicing yard for passenger transport and technical servicing yard in a passenger car servicing depot, the length of the connecting track between the station and depot can be shorter accordingly. 9. 3. 4 When a passenger station and a passenger car servicing depot are arranged in a transverse manner,it shall set one lead track. When a passenger station and a passenger car servicing depot are arranged in a longitudinal manner, it is possible to utilize the connecting tracks between the station and point or the tracks in servicing yard for passenger transport as lead tracks; when there are numerous train stock to/from the point and the carrying capacity of connecting tracks between the station and depot is insufficient,it shall set 1~2 lead tracks.

The effective length of lead tracks shall be no less than the effective length of arrival and departure tracks for passenger trains.

10 Freight Station, Freight Yard and Freight Transport Equipment

10. 1 Freight Station and Freight Yard

10. 1. 1 The arrangements of freight station and freight yard shall be determined by operation volume, goods category, operation nature and local conditions, etc, through comprehensive comparisons. The arrangement of freight yard shall be compact, make full use of the ground and reserve the possibility for development according to the operation volume in a specified future. In design it may be arranged by the following provisions:

1 Freight station may be designed into through type or stub-end type,and the station yards and freight yard may adopt lateral arrangement or longitudinal arrangement.

2 Large and medium-sized freight yards should be designed into stub-end type, and its tracks may be arranged in parallel manner or partial parallel manner.

3 Freight yard in an intermediate station may be designed into through type or combination type tracks.

10. 1. 2 The number of arrival and departure tracks in a freight station shall be determined by such factors as train flow,train nature and technical operation process,etc..

The effective length of arrival and departure tracks in a freight station may be determined according to the length of transit train plus 30 m additional brake distance,but the freight station for the trains originating and terminating on trunk line or running to trunk line shall meet the requirements on the effective length of arrival and departure track as stipulated to connect with sectional track.

10. 1. 3 The number of shunting tracks in a freight station shall be determined by the factors such as number of loading and unloading places, number of operation wagons and shunting methods, etc..

The effective length of a shunting track shall meet the requirement on the maximum length for train placing-in and taking-out,and it shall be no less than 200 m. 10. 1. 4 The lead tracks in freight station and freight yard shall be arranged depending on conditions such as train flow, busyness of shunting operation and whether there is special train for shunting locomotive or not,etc. When there are less train flow and less volume of shunting operations, or it is possible to utilize other tracks to conduct shunting operations, it may delay to set or not set lead tracks.

The effective length of lead tracks shall be determined by the length of trains or wagon group. Under difficult condition,the effective length of lead track in freight station should be no less than half of train length;the effective length of lead track in freight yard shall be • 50 •


no less than 200 m.

10. 1. 5 Freight yard shall be designed into a mixed-type freight yard or a specialized

freight yard according to volume of operations,goods category and nature of operations.

A mixed-type freight, yard may be divided into packed cargo area, heavy and bulky goods area, container cargo area, bulk goods area and general goods area, etc, based on goods category, volume of operations, nature of operations and requirements on freight management. In a large-sized freight yard.it is possible to divide operating areas according to arrival,departure and transit of goods. A freight yard handling operation of water-rail through goods traffic may be divided into water carriage area and railway goods area.

A specialized freight yard includes wagonload freight yard,less-than-wagonload freight yard, dangerous cargo yard,bulky and stack-loading goods yard,liquid cargo yard and container cargo yard,etc..

10. 1. 6 The mutual positions between each goods area in mixed-type freight yard shall be arranged according to goods category,etc.,as required in following items;

1 Packed cargo area shall be arranged away from bulky and stack-loading goods area, in the middle of these two areas it should set heavy and bulky goods area and general goods area.

2 Container cargo area should be set between packed cargo area and heavy and bulky goods area or general goods area.

3 Bulk goods area should be set in a leeward position of predominant wind direction in the yard.

4 The location of each goods area shall accord with the relevant national provisions on fire fighting,environmental protection and health.

10. 1. 7 Newly-built and reconstructed railways shall develop container cargo yard in priority instead of specialized less-than-wagonload freight yard.
