IS A TEACHER BORN OR MADE?

The question is answered by American school-children (California, 2000)

1. Most teachers were, unfortunately, made, although there are some that were born. The teachers that were born to teach enjoy their work and make it easier for the students to enjoy school.

2. A person who would make a successful teacher is born and grows with the need to teach. A person who is trained to teach but had no intention of teaching as a first-choice career most likely would not be a very successful teacher.

3. I think a teacher is born, because to be a teacher, one must have patience and other qualities one is born with. One can learn some things to be a teacher, but not others.

4. A Teacher (as one who imparts knowledge to others) is born. But a teacher in a school is never a real Teacher because they are so oppressed and restricted.

5. A teacher is made into what he/she is. We do not have born doctors or born parents. You become what you work for. I mean, being a teacher is just what you make of it: a job or a lifestyle.

6. I think a teacher is born. It takes a special gift to be a teacher. You must be caring, understanding, patient, but you must also have authority.

7. A teacher is born as a teacher - he or she has a natural instinct for teaching. Throughout their lives they will always teach.

9. A teacher is made. A teacher is someone who passes on his knowledge to others. A teacher is not born with this knowledge. Thus, a teacher is made.

10. I believe that a teacher can be either born or made, that if a person has a desire to teach he/she will try his/her best to become a good teacher.

11. Teachers are born, educators are made. An educator is someone who is very smart, who stands in front of a class and “rambles” on about a subject. A teacher has more passion, is more interested in seeing you learn. Making sure he explains things so that you can understand. He cares about you as a person. Teachers are underpaid and overworked. So if you want to teach you do it for some other reason besides money or prestige.

12. Most teachers are born, but some teachers are the text-book type and don't teach with their ideas and feeling.

13. A teacher is both born and made. A teacher may be born with the incentive to become a teacher and then the proper schooling will make him one.

14. A good, sincere teacher is born, but a teacher can be made. However, a teacher that is born will be better than a teacher that is made.

15. I think that a teacher is born, not made. I believe that it takes a special kind of person to be able to teach people things.
