Early years of aviation

The first Russian aircraft designer (дизайнэ) was Alexander Mozhaisky. His airplane, a monoplane, with two light (лайт) steam engines (ˋэнджинз) was tested in 1882 (eighteen eighty tw0). With the first Russian pilot, I.N. Golubev the plane rose into the air and flew (флу) a distance of 200 (two hundred) meters (митэз) before it landed.

At that time the same work was being conducted (кэндˋактид) by a German inventor Otto Lilienthal. He made his flight in a glider covering 35 (thirty five) meters. In 1903 (nineteen o three) two Americans, the brothers Wright, built their aeroplane. It flew only 32 (thirty two) meters but it was the first aeroplane with an internal (интё/онэл) combustion (кэмбасчэн) engin e.

In the following years aviation made big advances (эдвˋансиз). In 1910 Bleriot crossed the English Channel (чˋеннэл).

In 1913 the Russian designer Igor Sikorsky built the world's first multiengined (малти-ˋэнджинд) heavy (хэви) aircraft. That same year the Russian pilot Nesterov performed (пифомд) the first loop (луп).

An outstanding (аутстэндинг) event in the history of aviation took place in Petersburg in 1913 (nineteen thirteen). That year a heavy multiengined aeroplane “Russky Vityaz’’ was constructed (кэнстрактид).

Among the pioneers (пайэниэ) of aviation are the names of aircraft designers (дизайнэз) Tupolev, Sukhoi, Arkhangelsky, Yakovlev and others; the pilots Vodopyanov, Doronin, Kamanin, and some others

The air captured (кэпчэд) the imagination (имэджинаэйшн) of all. It was the efforts (эфэтс) of men of many countries who brought (брот) it to the art that we know today.
