1) How are you? - Thanks, not bad (bad-worse /wə:s/-worst /wə:st/); Could /kud/ be better.; Could be worse. Couldn’t be worse – гірше не буває.; Thank you, not so well – не дуже добре.; None [nʌn] too bright /brait/ не дуже добре.; Never better як николи.; I am quite /kwait/ well, thank you; I am all right, thank you. I’m safe and sound - цілий і неушкоджений; I’m in my element; I am sound as a bell - цілий і неушкоджений; I am as busy ['bɪzɪ] as a bee [biː]. I am like a fish out of water. I am out of my element; I am more dead [ded] than alive [ə'laɪv].

2) - What people usually say when they part.

So long. See you tomorrow / soon / later / again. – До зустрічі.

Goodbye, I hope to see you some day.

Goodbye and good luck!

Bye-bye!

- When you answer you can say the same or you can add:

Have a nice day! Have a nice weekend! Have fun! Have a good time!

- after this people usually say:

Thanks, you too!

Thanks, the same to you.

3) Hello! Nice seeing you. How are you?

Hello! I’m well, thank you. And how are you? / How is life?

Not too bad, thanks.

4) Hi! Nice to meet you. How are you getting on? / How are things? Hi… So-so

Why, what’s the matter ['mætə] with you? - в чому річ?

I’m unwell - Я нездужаю (погано себе почуваю)

I’m sorry to hear that.

5) Good morning! How are you?

- No complaints [kəm'pleɪnt] - Не жаліюсь. And you?

- Life is going its usual ['juːʒ(ə)l] way. How is everybody at home?

Життя йде своїм звичаєм. Як твої домашні?

- Everything is all right. I must hurry ['hʌrɪ] - Я маю поспішати.

- Glad to hear that. So long - Бувай!

- So long! See you tomorrow!

6) - Good morning! Never expected [ɪk'spektid] to meet you here - Не чекав тебе тут зустріти. How [hau] is life?

- Nothing to boast [bəust] of - Нема чим похвалитися. How are things with you?

- Everything is the same / very much / pretty much the same - Усе те саме. No news - Ніяких новин.

- No news is good news - Відсутність новин – хороша новина.

7) - Good afternoon!

- Good afternoon!

- How are things?

- So [səu] -so – так собі.

- Why? What’s the matter ['mætə] with you – у чому справа?

- I’ve left the key /ki:/ to my office at home.

Я залишив ключі від офісу вдома.

- Take is easy ['iːzɪ] - Не бери близько до серця. I’ll try to help you.

- It will be very kind [kaɪnd] of you - Це буде дуже люб’язно з твого боку.

 

 

8) meet (smb), make the acquaintance (of smb) - знайомитись (з кимось);

Hi. This is my friend Nick.

Hello, Nick. Pleased to meet you.

Hello! Glad to meet you too.

I am happy to make your acquaintance (to meet you).

Excuse me, here’s my bus. Bye!

Bye-bye. See you tomorrow.

9) Boris, meet my colleague ['kɔliːg], John Smith.

How do you do, Mr. Smith?

How do you do? How are you?

Couldn’t ['kudnt] be better – краще не буває. And you?

I am as [əz] busy ['bɪzɪ] as a bee [biː] бджола. I must be going. Bye till tomorrow.

Nice to meet you! / Pleased to meet you!

Fine, thank you.

Nice to meet you – приємно познайомитись з вами.

Let me introduce [ˌɪntrə'djuːs] представляти, знайомити you to my friend.

So am I. / Likewise ['laɪkwaɪz] – я теж. / It’s mutual ['mjuːʧuəl ], [-tjuəl] - взаємно.
