How to manually backup your computer.

#1. Who: You.

#2. What: Your important files and folders. These files and folders are located in the following locations:

C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\
C:\Users\%USERNAME%\Documents
C:\Users\%USERNAME%\Desktop
C:\Users\%USERNAME%\Pictures
C:\Users\%USERNAME%\Music
C:\Users\%USERNAME%\Videos
C:\Users\%USERNAME%\Favorites

#3. When: Daily, but at minimum, weekly.

#4. Where: To an online cloud service such as: Dropbox, or a portable external hard drive, and as a last choice a flash/thumb drive.

#5. Why: Because hard drives fail all the time, and you wouldn’t want to lose those important working documents would you? Myth: “The IT guys can just extract the data from the bad drive.” False! Not if a failed hard drive is the issue!

#6. How: Copy and Paste.

#A. Press “Ctrl+Shift+Esc”.

#B. Click “File”, and then click “New Task (Run…)”.

#C. Input:
C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\
into the “Open:” field, and the click “OK”.

#D. Click to select the “Profiles” folder, click “Organize”, and then click “Copy”.

#E. Plugin your portable external hard drive, and then click “Open folder to view files”. (If using dropbox, open: “C:\Users\%USERNAME%\Dropbox)

#F. With your portable external hard drive open, click “Organize”, and then click “Paste”.

#G. Unplug your portable external hard drive.

#H. Click “File”, and then click “New Task (Run…)”.

#I. Input:
C:\Users\%USERNAME%\
into the “Open:” field, and the click “OK”.

#J. Click “View”, and then click “Details”.

#K. Press and hold the “Ctrl” button, and then click to select the “Desktop”, “Favorites”, “My Documents”, “My Music”, “My Pictures”, and “My Vidoes” folders.

#L. Click “Organize”, and then click “Copy”.

#M. Plugin your portable external hard drive, and then click “Open folder to view files”. (If using dropbox, open: “C:\Users\%USERNAME%\Dropbox)

#N. With your portable external hard drive open, click “Organize”, and then click “Paste”.
