Regulations for the contest “Wondrous Lace Bird”

The contest is arranged by

The government-financed cultural organization of Vologda region “The Vologda State Museum-Preserve of History, Architecture and Decorative Arts” and “The Museum of Lace” as its subdivision.

 

1. Goals and Objectives

2.1. The aim of the contest is to make a lace bird as a visual symbol of the Vologda Region.

 

2.2. The contest has two nominations: “Lacemaking Is My Hobby” and “Lacemaking Is My Profession and/or Study Matter”.

 

2.3. Contest works should be made according to the patterns, given by the organizers. For the nomination “Lacemaking Is My Hobby” there is the pattern of an easy or middle difficulty level. And for the nomination “Lacemaking Is My Profession and/or Study Matter” there is a pattern of a more difficult level.

 

2.4. The time frame of the contest is from 16 February to 1 May 2015.

 

2.5. To provide the contest management the Organization Committee from the representatives of the organizers is formed.

 

2.6. The Organizing Committee determines the Terms of the contest, number of prizes and recognition gifts.

 

2.7. The Organizing Committee forms the Contest Jury.

 

2.8. Following the results of the contest, the Organizing Committee selects works to form an eponymous exhibition “Wondrous Lace Bird”. The exhibition will be located in the halls of The Museum of Lace (Address: 16000, Russian Federation, the Vologda Region; Vologda 12, Kremlin Square). The time frame of the exhibition is from 27 May to 20 November 2015.

 

2.9. The Organizing Committee has a right to change the time frame of the contest and/or of the exhibition and also to extend or to reduce the time frame.

 

2.10. The performers keep the author’s rights on the contest works. A person, giving a work to the contest, is liable to the truthfulness of its authorship. The organizers of the contest are not responsible if there are any violations of the author’s rights from the part of the participants.

 

3. Terms of Participation in the Contest

3.1. All the lacemakers (both amateurs and professionals) over 15 years old can take part in the contest.

 

3.2. Those lacemakers, who want to participate in the contest, should fill in the Application Form and send it either by e-mail: lace@vologdamuseum.ru or by fax (access to international telephone line in your country) (8172) 72-16-56.


3.3. After the organizers receive your Application Form, a pattern for the contest work will be sent to you. In your work you are allowed to use threads of different colours and combine them differently.

 

3.4. The contest work is performed by a participant with his own instruments and material.

 

3.5. Participation in the contest is free.

 

3.6. Each participant is allowed to give only one item to the contest.

 

3.7. Contest works should be sent to the Vologda Museum, address: 15 S. Orlov Street, Vologda, Russian Federation, 16000. Mail and package charges are at the expense of a sender.

 

3.8. Contest works are accepted on the terms of transfer without compensation (all the works are not given or sent back to the authors). The organizers guaranty that the works will become a part of the museum fund, in order to demonstrate them during travelling exhibitions, presentations and other museum events. Contest works can also be transferred to the sponsors of the contest, in case if they win any special prize.

 

4. The Jury

4.1. The Jury is formed by the Organizing Committee. The Jury consists of the experts in lacemaking: honored artists, researchers, lacemakers and teachers of lacemaking, museum employees.

 

4.2. The main duties of the Jury are:

· Estimation of the contest works on 1 to 10 scale according to the following criteria:



 

ü Artistic and aesthetic level of the work

ü Quality of the work

ü Originality of the colour composition

ü Correspondence to the pattern

 

5. Prizes and Recognition Gifts

5.1 The Organizing Committee appoints the following prizes:

 

In the nomination “Lacemaking Is My Hobby”:

- I prize

- II prize

- III prize

- Special prize “Young talent” (for lacemakers aged from 15 to 20)

 

In the nomination “Lacemaking Is My Profession and/or Study Matter”:

 

- I prize

- II prize

- III prize

- Special prize “Young talent” (for lacemakers aged from 15 to 20)

 

Sponsors of the contest have a right to establish some other special prizes.

 

6. Prizes and rewards

· The I prize winner is rewarded 5000 roubles.

· The II prize winner is rewarded 3000 roubles.

· The III prize winner is rewarded 2000 roubles.

· The special prize “Young Talent” winner is rewarded 1500 roubles.

· Money rewards for other special prizes are determined separately by the sponsors of those prizes.

 

For non-Russian winners money rewards are to be sent to their card accounts in currency of their country at the Russian Central Bank rate on the date of money transfer.
