EATING IN RESTAURANTS

Many people enjoy (1)_______ (dine) in restaurants, from fast food chains like McDonald's

to nicer, (2)______ (expensive) restaurants.

If you want to (3) (go) to a popular restaurant, you should call in advance for

reservations. Tell (4)______ (they) your name, the time you will be there, and how many people

will be in your party. You might also ask if they have smoking and (5)__________ (smoking) sections,

and, if it is a very elegant restaurant, whether men must (6) (wear) coats and ties.

After the host or (7) (host) seats you and gives you your menu, you will have some

time to decide what you want before the waiter or (8)_________ (wait) takes your order. Feel free

to ask he or she can recommend something special.

Be sure that the restaurant is clean and the food is well (9) (cook). You can send

back any (10) (spoil) or uncooked food and the waiter will either bring you something else, or — if you have lost your appetite — (11)__________________ (charge) you.

When you pay the bill, don't forget to leave a tip for the waiter or waitress. Usually you leave 15 percent of the total, but if the service was very bad, you don't have to leave anything, if the service was (12) (special) good it's nice to leave a little more. People often go to

restaurants together and share the bill; this is (13) (call) 'going dutch'.

If you can't finish your meal, the waiter or waitress might ask if you want a 'doggie bag'

(or you can ask for one). A doggie bag is a special bag or box for (14)________________ (take) your

(15)______ (eat) food home with you. Then you can eat the leftovers the next day.

Eating in restaurants is often fun. You can try different kinds of food, and — best of all — you don't have to wash the dishes!
