The English and the American governments have made very strict laws about the prison system. They have kept in view the time period of jail, the height of offence and the way to give severe punishment.

However there are many differences in their systems as well which leads us to a better understanding of the developments in these countries. Many differences have been imposed on the British system by the European Union. The major difference is that the English prison system allows the interaction of prisoner with other remedial sources. These sources include the electronic and print media and this gives an impression of a fair trial and regard of human rights.

There has been an increase in the crime rate in the United States in the recent years and many new regulations have been passed by the government. The prisons are now operated under the strict vision of federal and state governments. There are two types of cells for prisoners, namely the lock-ups and jails. Those people who are given a sentence of less than one year are placed in lock ups and they are controlled by state governments. These prisoners are not given any such punishment and are just detained at the lockups. They are even allowed to have a small meeting with their relatives.

However the criminals that have been given punishment by the courts for a longer period of time are kept in jails and are under the federal authority. These criminals are kept away from the lockup type prisoners and their jails are different from them. These prisoners are not even allowed to meet their relatives and are kept in a strict confinement. The story of criminals in the English prisons is different.

They are sometimes kept with the prisoners who have committed a minor crime. They are also given complete human rights and are allowed to meet with their relatives. So these facilities to the prisoners give an impression of a civilized trial and punishment.

Even the cities of state can confine people. They can hold him under the house arrest until he appears before a civil judge. Some are sentenced to a life time prison and even they are not given a parole.

However in the English system they are allowed to have a parole. The security measures for the prisoners vary according to their sentence. According to the jail sentence the administrative measures are taken accordingly. So we can say that the English prison system is better as compared to the American prison system as it offers excellent human rights and gives punishments to the criminals that can be justified on moral grounds.
