Free time(day off).

Most people in our country work five days a week but students and pupils work six days. They have only one day off. It is Sunday.
I like this day very much. You needn't hurry anywhere and you may go wherever you like after your week's work. On this day I wake up later than usual. But sometimes I don't get up till nine or ten o'clock. As soon as I get up I air the room, make my bed and do morning exercises. Then I have breakfast, clear away the dishes and wash up. Two more hours for getting ready with my homework, and I am free. I meet my friends and we discuss our plans together. We may go to the cinema or theatre, to museums and parks. In fine weather we also like to be out of town. We find a nice place somewhere in the forest or on the bank of the river. We lie in the sun, play different games and swim. In winter my friends and I often go to the skating-rink. Skating is my favourite kind of sport, but I like to ski too. In the evening all the members of our family get together. We have our supper, make plans for tomorrow, watch TV or read books. Reading is my hobby. I enjoy my days off very much.

Russia.

Russia is the largest country in the world. It covers half of Europe and a third of Asia. It borders on different countries. Russia is located on two plains. They are: the Great Russian Plain and the West Siberian Plain. On the vast territory of Russia there are 4 climatic zones. They are the arctic, the subarctic, the temperate and the subtropical zones. The arctic and the subarctic zones have the coldest climate. The subtropical zone is the warmest. We live in the temperate zone. The climate is moderate. Russia is rich in natural resources. It has large reserves of oil, natural gas, copper, lead and other minerals. There are a lot of holidays in Russia. The year begins with the New Year. Usually people begin to celebrate it in the evening of the 31st of December. Before the holiday we decorate the New Year Tree and children write letters to Father Frost. The next holiday is celebrated on the 23rd of February. It is the Day of the Defender of Motherland. On this day women congratulate men and give them small presents. In March we have the International Women’s Day. It is celebrated on the 8th of March. On this day men present small gifts to their mothers, wives, daughters, sisters, etc. On the 1st and the 2nd of May we have the Holiday of Spring and Labour. Formerly people had demonstrations on this day. The next great holiday in our country is the 9th of May. It is called Victory Day. In 1945 Soviet Army de-feated German fascists. This holiday is widely celebrated in our country. Russians are open-hearted, good-wishers, friendly and family-oriented. The Russians are very sympathetic. Most of us will give money to beggars. Another national feature of the Russians is optimism, and belief in a happy future. Friendship has a special meaning in Russian culture. There is a saying in Russia: “Don’t have a hundred of rubles, but have a hundred of friends.”
