TRANSPORT AND TRAVELLING

 

Teacher: Приветствие (Good afternoon/ How are you? Are you OK? I hope so. Are you happy? I hope so.

How’s everybody? How’s it going?

What date is it today? What day is it today?

What’s the time? What’s the weather like today? Is it raining? Do you like summer or winter? Do you live in the hostel? Is there a shower? Are there any hotel facilities?

How can I get to the hotel? Do you know where the chemist’s is?

 

Answer my questions, please: What different types of transport do you know? How did you get here? (by bus, by car).

 

Repeat after me, please! I can get/ go/walk to the hotel / by bus/ by car/ by taxi/ by car. Sometimes we miss the bus so we take a taxi to arrive in time.

 

Now we are at the Ticket office. Can I have a single /a return (ticket) to London, please? I’d like to book/reserve a seat in advance? How much is the train/the bus/the airplane/the underground fare? How much will it take me to get there? Is the journey long? What time shall we arrive in London?

 

Let`s make some dialogues now!

A: How did you get here?

B: I came here by bus.

A: And the others?

B: They came by car.

A: And Paul?

B: He missed the bus, so he had to take a taxi.

 

Here we are near the bus stop. Are we going to take a bus? Repeat after me!

A bus driver, bus fare, to catch/to take a bus, to get on a bus, to get off a bus, at the bus stop, a wait between buses.

 

Answer my questions, please!

Where is the (nearest) bus stop? Excuse me, do the buses stop here? Where can I get a bus schedule? How often do the buses run? What’s the name of this bus stop? What number bus should I take? Can I get to…on this bus? Are you getting off now? Are you getting off at the next stop? My child is 4. Can he travel free? Will the driver give me change? How long is the wait between buses? How long will take me to get to …?

Let`s make some dialogues now! We are at a bus stop. First listen to me then repeat after me and at last act the dialogue. We are going to work in pairs with changing partners.

- Where is the (nearest) bus stop?

- It`s over there/near here.

- Excuse me, do the buses stop here?

- You`re quite right! Bus 5 or 6 stop here.

- Where can I get a bus schedule? How often do the buses run?

- You can see it right near the bus stop.

- What’s the name of this bus stop?

- It`s Oak lane.

- Which bus should I take? Can I get to the hotel by this bus?

- You should take bus 5 or 6. And you can get to the hotel by this bus.

- Are you getting off now or at the next stop?

- I am getting off now.

- How long is the wait between buses?

- It`s about five minutes.

- How long will take me to get to the hotel?

- It`ll take you 20 minutes.

 

Sometimes we travel by train. What persons/things can we see at the railway station? Repeat after me, please! A train driver, a train fare, a railway station, a schedule, a restaurant car, a day return, a period return, a carriage, a compartment, a lower /an upper berth, luggage rack, overnight train, second class tickets, sleeping accommodation, a sleeper.

 

to catch/to take a train, to get on a train, to get off a train, to travel first/second class, to leave from/to depart, to change trains.

 

Let`s train our memory! Tell me the words one after the other, don’t repeat any word please.

 

 

Are there any trains leaving from this station to Moscow at about 6 p.m.?

When does the train from Moscow arrive?

The Paris train departs/leaves from platform 2.

Do I have to change trains for Moscow?

How long does it take to get to Moscow?

Shall we arrive on schedule?

15. Аудирование и составление расширенных диалогов по теме.

 

По окончании 4-го занятия студенты должны уметь:

1) употреблять прошедшее время (Past Simple) и настоящее совершенное время (Present Perfect);

2) сказать как они добрались до университета;

3) общаться на тему поездок на автобусе, поезде, такси, купить билет

4) рассказать о характере поездок (деловые, культурные и т.д.);

5) рассказать о своем последнем путешествии.

At the Airport

 

1. Приветствие.

(Morning. How are you? Are you OK? I hope so.

How are you doing? Do you like the weather today?

Where do you live (near here, far from here)?

Can you tell me the way to your house?

How do you get here (by bus, by car, by underground)?

How long does it take you to get here?

What is the underground fare in Kazan (in Moscow)?

What airports in Kazan do you know?

How can you get there?

 

2. У доски информации. The first place you go to at the airport is the Information desk (the flight information monitors) where you can get information about Arrivals and Departures

(have check-in, be delayed, be on time, be cancelled).

3. Регистрация (You check-in for the flight at the check-in counter/registration stand and have a talk with a check-in officer. You are given the boarding pass with seat and gate),

4. На борту самолета (you are on board). You see the signs: No smoking, Toilets, Fasten your seat-belts and you hear on the radio: Welcome aboard, Do not use electronic devices during the flight, Keep your seat-belts fastened during take-off, taxing and landing, We wish you a pleasant flight.

What do passengers usually do on the plane? (have a meal, watch a video/listen to music/ sleep/ speak to their neighbours).

If you need something you can call the flight attendant and ask for a cup of water, for example.

5. At the end of the flight you will hear:

6. Прибытие. Arrival. (you land, collect your hand baggage, get off the plane, go through passport control, pick up your luggage). If your suitcase is missing go to Missing/Lost Baggage Counter).

7. Таможенная служба при въезде в другую страну. When you go through passport control the Customs officer/agent at the Customs can ask you some questions about the purpose of your visit, the place of your visit and the things you are bringing into the country.

8. Работа в парах. Беседа о последнем полете. (Where did you go? What did you do at the airport? What did you do on the plane? How was the flight? Etc)

 

По окончании 5-го занятия студенты должны уметь:

1) употреблять прошедшее время (Past Simple);

2) понять объявления по радио;

3) пройти регистрацию в аэропорту;

4) пройти паспортный и таможенный контроль;

5) обратиться с просьбой к бортпроводнику.
