Heats in preliminary rounds.

 

13.1. Competitions shall include preliminary rounds, semifinal and final.

13.2. Preliminary rounds and semifinal serve for selection of participating couples in every individual dance. The number of couples selected by experts for the next round is determined by the Chairman of expert commission. It is recommended to select for the next round at least 50% of participating couples.

13.3. In preliminary rounds the participating couples are equally distributed to heats. Admissible number of couples in one heat depends on the size of parquet floor and is determined by the Chairman of Expert Commission.

13.4. Preliminary rounds of competitions shall be held with the same couples dancing in the same heats. It is recommended to distribute couples to heats for the first round taking into account their nationalities and for the next round – in accordance with the results of the previous round: to separate the 1st place from the 2nd, the 3rd from the 4th etc.

13.5. Not more than 12 couples shall participate in a semifinal. Not more than 6 couples shall participate in a final. These numbers can be increased if couples have equal results in the previous round and in accordance with the decision of the Chairman of Expert Commission.

13.6. Breaks of at least 20 minutes shall divide rounds of competitions of every group of dancers.

13.7. During one day not more that 3 (three) rounds of competitions (including both programs) shall be held at World Combination Championships. Every round shall include competitions in both programs with the following interchange in rounds: the 1st round: CBD – La; the 2nd round: La – CBD; the 3rd round: CBD – La. A break of at least 40 minutes shall divide Classic Ballroom and Latin American programs and breaks of at least 20 minutes shall divide rounds.

 


Rule 14

 

Music

 

14.1. In all competitions the music shall have the character and style of the dances. For example, no disco music shall be used in Latin-American dances.

14.2. The tempi of dance music shall be:

Waltz 30 bars/min. 90 bits/min.

Tango 33 bars/min. 132 bits/min.

Viennese Waltz 60 bars/min. 180 bits/min.

Slow Foxtrot 30 bars/min. 120 bits/min.

Quickstep 50 bars/min. 200 bits/min.

 

Cha-Cha-Cha 30 bars/min. 120 bits/min.

Samba 50 bars/min. 100 bits/min.

Rumba 27 bars/min. 108 bits/min.

Paso Doble 62 bars/min. 124 bits/min.

Jive 44 bars/min. 176 bits/min.

 

One bar change in the tempi shall be allowed.

 

14.3. With 6 to 8 couples dancing on the floor the tournament dance duration shall be 1 minutes and 30 seconds, 1 minute for Viennese Waltz (the introduction shall not be longer than 10 seconds). The end of melody shall correspond to a musical phrase or it shall be mixed for a duration of 2 to 5 seconds.

14.4. With more than 8 couples dancing on the floor the tournament dance duration can be extended in accordance with the decision of the Chairman of Expert Commission: W – 4+64 bars; T – 4+64 bars; F – 4+64 bars; Q – 4+96 bars; VW – 4+80 bars; Ch – 4+64 bars; S – 4+96 bars; R – 4+64 bars; P – 100 bars as a minimum and 132 bars as a maximum; J – 4+64 bars. That is, the music duration shall be a bit longer than 2 minutes, for Viennese Waltz and Jive – 1 minute and 30 seconds. That is, a little more than 2 minutes for VW and 1 minute and 30 seconds for J.

14.5. Paso Doble shall have the standard accents: part 1 – 44 bars, Part 2 – 35 bars, Part 3 – 43 bars. The end of Paso Doble music shall coincide with musical accent in the end of the 2nd or the 3rd part. It is allowed to play Paso Doble music without the last part in preliminary rounds of competitions. In the final Paso Doble music shall by played in full.

14.6. The breaks between heats shall be made in preliminary rounds of competitions; these breaks shall be long enough to allow the couples leave and enter the parquet floor. Paso Doble music shall start when all the couples are on the floor and in positions for the beginning of dance.

14.7. Music at the tournament shall be played without distortions and noises, the music volume shall correspond to the hall size.
