Сравнительные конструкции as.. as..; not so as... так же как, такой же как...

It's as warm today as it was yesterday. Сегодня так же тепло, как вчера.
He isn’t as old as he looks. Ему не столько лет, на сколько он выглядит.
Is ten o’clock as convenient for you as eleven? Десять часов так же удобно вам, как одиннадцать?
He was running as quickly as he could. Он бежал так быстро, как мог.

В отрицательных предложениях чаще употребляется so...as...

The traffic here isn’t so heavy as in the city center. (=The traffic here isn’t as heavy as in the city center.) Здесь движение не такое сильное, как в центре.
I can’t come as early as all the others, I’m afraid. (=I can’t come so early as all the others, I’m afraid.) Боюсь, что я не могу прийти так рано, как все остальные.  
as far as I know... насколько я знаю...  
as far as I remember... насколько я помню...  
as white as snow белый как снег  
as busy as a bee занятый как пчела  
Petrol's twice as expensive nowas it was a few years ago. Бензин теперь вдвое дороже, чем несколько лет назад.  
Your garden's three times as large as ours, isn't it? Ваш сад раза в три раза больше нашего, не правда ли?

Оборот used to

оборот для выражения действия, которое когда-то в прошлом соверша- лось регулярно, часто, но в настоящем уже не совершается.

Iused to go to the stadium often, but now I haven't got enough time, I'm afraid. Раньше я часто ходил на стадион, но сейчас у меня, к сожалению, слишком мало времени.  
"Do you play tennis?" "Not now, but I used to." Вы играете в теннис? Сейчас нет, но когда-то играл.  
Sheused to be very beautiful when she was young. Она была очень красива в молодости.
Heused to be an army officer. Когда-то он был военным.
