For example, to recover the living room; having hung up bright curtains on the windows? Or to recolour an old rack in the kitchen? Your desire is the law! But stop. Let's not hasten. In a choice of this or that color for painting a rack and in a choice of curtains, it is necessary to be guided not only by the taste or last tendency of a fashion, but also by a science about values of various colors of a spectrum. For the beginning it is necessary for you to know values of those colors which you want to use in the interior.

YELLOW It is the color of the sun which is the major source of a life on the Earth. Use yellow color for feeling of fun and vivacity; strengthenings of hope; revival of a workplace; attachments of the person to a place of dwelling; feeling of warmth and a cosiness (goldish and honey shades) Avoid pure yellow color inside buffets or sliding boxes; in bathrooms.

VIOLET. Violet is not a simple combination of dark blue and red color. It can be received only by careful overlapping of dark blue with the certain shades of crimson color. Partly therefore it symbolizes regal greatness, this color specifies spirituality and steadiness. Use purple color for a designation of authority; strengthenings of a self-estimation.

DARK BLUE. It is color of independence and bent for to adventures. Use dark blue color, for a designation of secret; meditations. Or for expressions of the individuality of feeling of a cool. Avoid pure dark blue color: when the room is intended for productive leisure; in cold places; in the places intended for reception of food; in the places of common use.

ORANGE. Orange color represents a combination of red color of human blood and yellow color of a sun. It is appreciated especially by optimists and fans of adventures. Use orange color for disposal of feeling of loneliness. Avoid pure orange color when full calm is necessary; when concentration on something is required.

WHITE. White color is combination of all other colors. For Europeans it means innocence as it appears to our look pure and spotless. As white color reflects all other colors and remains pure, virtue and divinity frequently are associated with this color. Use white color for definition of innocence and virtue; creations of feeling of freshness and cleanliness; expressions of sincerity.

GREEN. The color of vegetation brought in space of an interior, connects us with the nature. We feel active and updated as green color associates with growth and development.

RED. Being the color of blood, red color symbolizes a stream of vital force. Use red color for a designation of borders and limits; derivations of attention from undesirable places; preventions; ritual activity; emotional stimulation and sexual excitation; warming; designations of the important sites. Avoid pure red color in the places intended for contemplation and meditation; places for rest; the limited spaces.

BLACK. Black color absorbs all other colours and, it is considered adverse in an interior of inhabited rooms. However it does not mean, that it cannot be used as an element of a decor or external furnish in a combination to blue or silver-steel color, especially for toilets and subsidiary premises. Black is a color of secret. Use black color for creation of an atmosphere of secret and an intrigue; impressions of warmth; expressions of force and solidarity. Avoid pure black color in children's rooms; in situations where sincere dialogue is necessary; in places for reading.

In art color symbolism refers to the use of color as a symbol throughout cultures and religions. Various cultures see color differently. In the East red is considered favorable color which brings pleasure, especially on the eve of New Year while white color associates with mourning. Yellow color is connected to longevity. In European countries and in Russia white is a color of innocence, purity, and black is a color of evil. While in India and in Arabic countries color of evil is white. In Spain - yellow, in Mexico - claret. For Indians grey is a color of joy, and for Europeans and in Russians this is a color of sorrow, monotony and gloom. Even members of the same culture from different age groups can act differently. The symbolism of color can also be seen in localized religious divisions, in the UK for example, where Catholic and Protestant have a history of conflict, green is associated with Catholicism and Orange is associated with Protestantism. The ancient Chinese, Egyptians, and Indians believed in chromotherapy, or healing with colors.

My own TV show “Kaleidoscope”

Presenter: Tonight on Kaleidoscope we're very happy to have Rosie Brown back with us in the studio. You're going to be talking to us about how to put a little colour in our lives.

Rosie: Yes, Derek, and you look as if you could do with some, you're rather pale aren't you?

Presenter: Well I'm cooped up in the studio all day - anyway let's hear the first guest's question.

Guest 1: Er, yes yes, I would like to know if the colour of your clothes has any effect on the way you feel.

Presenter: Well, Rosie's wearing blue tonight, any reason for that Rosie?

Rosie: Actually Derek there is. Blue helps you calm down in nervous situations, like erm radio interviews, and also makes your brain more alert. Can I just ask what colour do the guest prefer wearing?

Guest 1: Yes, I wear a lot of red, which is actually what I'm wearing now.

Rosie: Red's a good colour if you want to help your blood circulate, it also stimulates physical activity but is not much use if you need to focus your concentration on something particular.

Presenter: OK. Let's move on to guest two. Can we have your question, please?

Guest 2: Em, I've got two young children and I'm getting rather worried about all those dyes and additives in their food.

Rosie: There's quite a lot of controversy around food dyes. Some doctors I know say they can be the cause of all kinds of things -hyperactivity, asthma, headaches, even eczema. My advice would be to avoid them, at least the artificial ones. But of course there are natural food dyes, and if you're a cook, you may know that the Mexicans used to dye some of their foods with tints obtained from the dried bodies of insects.

Presenter: Oh yuck! Sounds revolting. Anyway we've got another guest.

Guest 3: I'm going to be opening a clothes shop quite soon and I wondered if Rosie could recommend any colours.

Rosie: Well, I'm not sure I could recommend any particular colour, I think that's such a personal thing, but what I can do is to tell you what to avoid and that's yellow.

Presenter: Yellow?

Rosie: Yes, studies have shown that yellow actually makes people want to steal things.

Presenter: Is that so?

Rosie: But yellow's fine if you've got a restaurant, because it encourages people to eat up fast and go. Colour's a funny thing. There was a period when American football clubs used to paint their guest changing room pink, as this was supposed to make the opposition become super-relaxed and so rather lethargic on the field.

Presenter: Interesting. Right. We've got time for one more question.

Guest 4: Yes, I heard that colour can influence the mood and emotional condition of person, is it really so?

Rosie: Oh ye! When you choose a colour scheme, you're also choosing a mood: choose the wrong colour for a room and it could make you fell depressed, sluggish, irritable or anxious every time you walk into it. Researchers in Japan asked a group of strangers to walk round two rooms, one painted red and the other blue. They found that in the red room, the people started talking and laughing. As soon as they walked into the blue room, they fell silent.

Presenter: So. Now I understand why I always feel depressed in the office of our chief. Well and we have a new question from our next guest.

Guest 5: My wife and me, we have just removedto new flat and we are going to make a repair, what colours you can advice us for different rooms?

Rosie: Well. Let me think. Yellow can help concentration and learning. Sunshine yellow kitchens also make people smile:). Orange is useful for stimulating the appetite. Turquoise is the colour of communication. Green is a calming colour, which helps you feel relaxed and quiet. Painting walls with a strong colourdraws them in, making the room fell smaller - great for a cosy look. A high ceiling will seem lower when it's darker than the walls, and vice versa. Soft peaches and pinks are ideal for a bedroom. Try to steer clear of deep or intense colours when decorating kitchens. Blues are ideal for bathrooms as they're associated with water and make us feel relaxed and rejuvenated.

Presenter: I think I need to repaint some of the rooms in my house after your words. And we have one more question.

Guest 6: We with my friend live in one room of hall of residence. He painted his half in orange and I chose blue colour. Our common friend said that I was cool person and my roommate is warm. What does it mean?

Rosie: It means that your friend and you chose warm and cool colours. Blues and greens can introduce a cool mood into a room. The level of coolness will depend on the intensity of the colours. Cool colours can also be used to change the appearance of a room, pushing back walls and furnishings and making the room appear more spacious. They look best in a room with a sunny exposure, where the colours counteract some of the strength of the direct sun. They should be avoided in shaded rooms. Warm colours, such as red and apricot, have an opposite, effect, closing in the walls of a room. If the room is large, its dimensionsseem decreased. Warm colours look their best in a not so bright room with southern light, so that the bright effect of the sunny colours is not too overbearing.

Presenter: So it was very cognitive.

Guest 7: I know a case when the bargain of export of large lot of champagne from US to Mexico was ruined because the taps of the bottles were painted in claret colour. Why was it so?

Rosie: Various cultures see color differently.

Presenter: Ok.Unfortunately our time is up now. And in the end what advice can give us in choosing working with colours for all spheres of our life.

Rosie: What can I say? Nature provides us with some basic principles: the darkest hues at our feet e.g. forest floor; the medium level at eye level e.g. tree trunks; the lightest hues above us e.g. sky. Use the most intense huesin areas occupied for short periods of time such as formal dining rooms, hallways, staff lunchrooms, laundries, entrances, etc. Avoid monotony and treat the eye and psyche to at least a moderate variety. A touch of contrasting colour can be lively and exciting but too much can become uncomfortable. On the other hand, too much moderation produces dullness. Personal tasteand preferences are the most important considerations in choosing a colour scheme. Finally, think about proportions of colours. A basic rule using 2/3 one colour and 1/3 another is always successful. Harmoniouscolour selections are created by a pleasing relationship of the three dimensions of colour: hue, intensity and value.

Presenter: Thankyou very much Rosie for your kindly answering our questions. My dear audience, we hope that our TV show was interesting and cognitive for you and gave you pleasure. Good bye! See you next Monday in the say time.

Rosie: Good bye.
