About myself, my working day and hobby

I am a student of the Altai State Medical University. I am always busy because I have a lot of things to do.

I get up early in the morning- at 7 a. m. I do my morning exercises and go to the bathroom. Then I dress myself and have my breakfast. At 7.30 I leave the house. I live far from the university, so I go there by bus. Our classes begin usually at 8 a.m.

We study a lot of subjects- anatomy, biology, chemistry, physics, Latin, English and others. I often go to the library to get ready for the next day.

I come home at about 6 p.m. Sometimes I'm extremely tired. I have my dinner and have some rest. Then I do my homework and go to bed. I fall asleep immediately.

I have only one day off. It is Sunday. On Sunday I get up later than usual. My plans for the weekend depend on my mood, the weather etc. Sometimes I spend the whole day at home. Sometimes I go out. I meet with my friends or relatives. Then I do my homework for the next day. I like Sundays. It is nice to have some free time after a busy week.

Medical Education in Great Britain

There are a lot of medical schools and universities in Great Britain. To enter a medical school in GB candidates pass their entrance examinations. It is required that chemistry, physics, biology should be taken at the advanced level. Tuition fees are charged.

The academic year is divided into three terms. The study lasts 5 years. It consists of two years of basic sciences and three years of clinical work.

The first and second year students study human anatomy, biology biochemistry…But Latin isn’t thought in all medical schools there, because it is possible to write out prescriptions in English too. Senior students spend most of their time in teaching hospitals.

Students in GB have their examination periods three times a year (at the end of each term). The exams include academic and practical problems. Students have their final examinations in Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology and Pathology.

After 3 years students obtain degrees of Bachelor of Medicine or Bachelor of Surgery. After the final examinations students work in hospitals for a year. This period is called internship. After internship a young doctor obtains “Certificate of Experience” and he may work as a medical practitioner.

Further specialization is the training in residency. It trains highly qualified specialists in a definite field: gynecologists, urologists and others.

Besides the degrees of Bachelor of Medicine or Bachelor of Surgery they have the degree of Doctor of Medicine. Such a degree is termed a mastership.
