request talk! yuuhi & kiriyan reminisce, part the second

The final part! (: tsukigumi’s afro legend & soragumi’s moustache festivals… XD I can’t, lmao.

Oozora Yuuhi: Although I think it’s probably hard for those reading right now to follow along (laughs), in this way we’re able to look back upon our past selves…

Kiriya Hiromu: Because we’re passing the time pretty deeply, huh.

Oozora: Yeah, yeah. Also, and this is something I’ll never forget, there was the 90th anniversary Sports Festival that we won.

Kiriya: With Saeko-san (Ayaki Nao), the three of us participated in the obstacle race and got first place.

Oozora: We were really fast, weren’t we? When we got to the goal, the three of us together, we were making super insanely happy faces (laughs).

Kiriya: And during the tug-of-war, it was the afros, right.

Oozora: Afros, right. At that time, Moon Troupe was just starting to wear them…

Kiriya: At that time I was making a special appearance in a Flower Troupe performance, but Moon Troupe was doing a dark show* called Takarazuka Splendor II, weren’t they?

Oozora: Yeah, yeah. There is one scene in that show where everyone went out wearing afros. Probably, back then, when we did Nova Bossa Nova, during the “Shinaaman”** scene, the otokoyaku and the onnayaku were all wearing afros, so I guess it was because we all wanted to make our hot-blooded passion more memorable. When we did it, we got so riled up it was like everyone’s personalities had changed (laughs).

Kiriya: Everyone was really pumped up, right.

Oozora: Yeah, yeah. And then, if you’re talking about getting Moon Troupe pumped up…that is, because of that, during tug-of-war, we unanimously agreed to wear afros. At any rate, ten years before Moon Troupe suffered a crushing defeat in tug-of-war so we had fighting spirit, right. Of course, we didn’t wear the afros when we were practicing though?

Kiriya: No, we wore them (laughs). Though I do wonder why, since it was just practice.

Oozora: I wonder too. Thinking about when we were like ‘aaah’ though, I have no idea how to translate that (laughs).

Kiriya: (laughs)

Oozora: When we got first place then, no one bothered to start talking, and then everyone, the second it was over, took off their afros and ran away (laughs).

Kiriya: We escaped, we escaped (laughs).

Oozora: I will never forget the moment when all those afros came fluttering down from the sky (laughs).

Kiriya: They did, they did (laughs).

Oozora: Is Moon Troupe still doing the afro thing even now?

Kiriya: We are. This is only for the special reserved performances, but during one performance it’s been established that everyone will wear afros once or twice in the scenes where everyone appears.

Oozora: This is Moon Troupe’s legend, isn’t it.

Kiriya: That’s right. Although I don’t know why…Well, it doesn’t matter because it gets everyone pumped up, right.

Oozora: It gets you riled up, and there are a lot of things you can learn, right.

Kiriya: The atmosphere really changes, doesn’t it?

Oozora: Yeah yeah. So the way you present your facial expressions, and other important points all change and stuff.

Kiriya: Yeah, I got you. Also stuff like the way you comb the afro and such right.

Oozora: Yep. And you might even try touching other people’s afros a bit (laughs). A lot of free(t/n: like, ‘i do this freely’ not ‘this pen was free’ XD) things are born. The other day, in Cosmos Troupe we did a thing called the “Moustache*** Festival.” For the scene where the otokoyaku are all on the grand staircase, everyone wore moustaches.

Kiriya: Whaaaat!

Oozora: That day all the onnayaku-san came to watch from the hanamichi and said like ‘it was really great!’ and ‘it gave off an even deeper feeling than usual!’ I guess those sorts of things can also be uncovered, huh (laughs).

Kiriya: Well, in the end it all serves the arts, doesn’t it.

Oozora: Yeah yeah yeah (laughs).

Kiriya: The fact that playing and the arts can come together like this is really wodnerful, don’t you think?

*omg I think she meant this as some special meaning, but I really have no idea.;__; I guess maybe dark? Though it literally means black/blackened/etc. I’ve never seen the revue, so I don’t know… the words she used were 黒塗りのショー so if anyone wants to shed any light… D8

**k she said シナーマン, and I have no idea what that is. XD I’m assuming it’s a special part of the show? Or cinnamon? XD I have absolutely no idea, lol.

***Although I kept saying beard before, but I kept seeing in my mind a moustache. XD The Japanese word for ‘beard’ is ヒゲ (hige) but it can refer to a moustache as well, although they do also say 口髭 (kuchihige) to refer to moustaches specifically. So although Yuuhi didn’t say kuchihige, I was imagining in my mind’s eye that everyone was wearing moustaches. XD And I feel like that’s probably what they were wearing anyway.
