To the west of the continent of Europe lie two large islands. The larger of them is called Great Britain, and the smaller, Ireland. These two and 5,500 smaller islands form the British Isles.

The island of Great Britain consists of England, Scotland and Wales. The isle of Ireland is divided into Northern Ireland and the Irish Republic. England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland form the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The UK (the United Kingdom) is the official name of the country, occasionally referred to as Great Britain, which is, strictly speaking, only a geographic name.

Great Britain is washed by the Atlantic Ocean and the Irish Sea from the west, by the North Sea from the north and west. It is separated from the European continent by the English Channel. The narrowest part of the English Channel is called the Strait of Dover. The UK is not a very large country. Its territory is about 244, 000 square kilometers, and no point of the country is more than 120 kilometers away from the sea.

Travelling

Travelling became a part of our life. Thousands of people travel every day either on business or for pleasure. They travel by road, by train, by air or by sea.

Of course, travelling by air is the fastest and the most convenient way, but it is the most expensive, too. Travelling by train is slower than travelling by plane, but it is less expensive. You can see many interesting places of the country through the window.

Travelling by sea is popular mostly for pleasure trips. Tourists can make voyages on large ships to foreign countries. The trips on the Volga, the Don and the Black Sea are very popular today.

As for me I prefer travelling by car. I think it’s more convenient because you don’t buy tickets, you can stop any place and spend as much time as you like at any place.

Примерное содержание рейтингов

Стартовый рейтинг включает 20 тестовый заданий лексико-грамматического характера, которые выполняются методом множественного выбора. Оценки выставляются в зависимости от количества правильных ответов следующим образом:

100% - 98% = “5”

97% - 75% = “4”

70% - 50% = “3”

45% - 30% = “2”

Рубежные рейтинги

Каждый рейтинг включает оценки по следующим аспектам:

1. Определение уровня грамматических навыков и знаний лексики в соответствии с «требованиями к знаниям и умениям студентов по рубежным рейтингам»
2. Определение уровня навыков аудирования.
3. Определение навыков и умений монологического и диалогического высказываний обучаемых по требуемым темам.
4. Определение уровня навыков изучающего и ознакомительного чтения.

Начиная со II рубежного рейтинга добавляется 5 баллов за систематичность, своевременность, правильность выполнения текущих заданий.

Учебный материал распределяется по рейтингам следующим образом.

Семестровый рейтинг по дисциплине выставляется нарастающим итогом по рубежным рейтингам и заносится в рейтинговую ведомость, в зачетную книжку студента проставляется соответствующая оценка.

Шкала соответствия рейтинга итоговой оценке:

100-85 баллов – “5”

84-70 баллов – “4”

69-60 баллов – “3”

Менее 60 баллов - “2”
