All countries have peculiar symbols, traditions and habits and France is no exception. Today I would like to tell you about some unique attributes which are related to France and its history.

To start with, France is an elegant and spicy country, which does not stop to surprise and delight. Everyone, who has visited France and felt her unique spirit and flavor, will seek to come here again and again, each time discovering something new.

People come here to get in touch with perfection, because the French were able to raise the reputation of their country to unreachable heights, including such spheres as fashion, cuisine, lifestyle, culture and fine entertainment.

First of all, it is better to say that there are 2 categories of items which would be considered as symbols of France. They are 'Official' and 'Unofficial' Symbols.

So, let’s start with Official Symbols of France which are included in the French Constitution.

1) the French flag

It consists of 3 vertical stripes of equal width, colored in royal blue, white, and red.

2) the National Anthem, called the Marseillaise

The song was written in 1792 by Claude Rouget in Strasbourg.

It was a revolutionary song, an anthem to freedom, a patriotic call to mobilize all the citizens to fight against the tyranny and the foreign invasion.

3) the phrase or motto 'Liberté, égalité, fraternité', which is a modified version of various phrases used around the time of the French Revolution

4) Bastille Day, the French national Holiday celebrated on July 14

A date in Parisian revolutionary history

In Paris, the traditional military parade along the Champs-Elysées is prepared with incredible attention to details. Balls, illuminations and firework displays are held throughout France.

5) The Gallic rooster is a long-standing symbol of France, dating back to Gallic times. It represents France as a State, and its values. The cockerel appears on stamps, coins, the French Official Seal etc.

Unofficial Symbols of France

Eiffel Tower - frequently used abroad as a symbol or representation of France, the Eiffel Tower is the most instantly recognizable building in France.

Baguette - a French bread, it is a long thin loaf beloved by the French...and so difficult for other nations to make well!

And Croissant is a buttery, flaky pastry named for its well-known crescent shape.

Beret - a black felt cap worn tilted to one side, the beret is used more in caricature images of France than as a symbol, but it really is worn by many men of the older generation in France.

The Tour de France remains one of the great symbols of France. It is an annual multiple stage bicycle race. The modern editions of the Tour de France consist of 21 day-long stages over a 23-day period and cover around 3,500 kilometers. The format of the race stays the same with the passage through the mountain chains of the Pyrenees and the Alps, and the finish on the Champs-Élysées in Paris

The French Riviera (Côte d'Azur), the Mediterranean coastline of the southeast corner of France. It is a beautiful popular tourist place, which attracts many foreigners.

The Cannes Festival is an annual film festival held in France, which previews new films of all genres from around the world. Founded in 1946, this festival is considered the most prestigious in the world.
