Many thanks for your letter. There are no material senses. The capacity you have to see, here and now, is the divine capacity, and is exercised by Mind, despite and not because of eyes. “The realization that all inharmony is unreal brings objects and thoughts into human view in their true light…” (S&H 276:12-13) and they are then found harmonious and eternal. You see, the inharmony is contained in the mist of mortal mind, the mirage, just as the appearance of a distorted landscape is contained in the mist and not in the landscape.

We experience normality humanly because our present divinity in every detail is the fact. There is not a divine and a human. The divine is the fact and living as the divine, as the Christ, you become the law of normality to everything that appears as your humanity. Just let your divinity embrace your humanity, just as light embraces darkness, without being aware of the darkness.

Barn House, October 7

Yes, God is satisfied and man is therefore satisfaction. But if God were to look in the mirror and see His reflection, He would not be able to say if what He was looking at was God or man. Being is one indivisible whole and is a state of satisfaction. There is no outside to oneness, and so nothing to crave for. The desire for greater satisfaction is only possible because the idea is already in consciousness, and prayer (the affirmation of Truth itself) lifts thought to the answer of its prayer.

Mortals are driven to accept what best promotes their progress. They are driven to understanding, in which the mortal, finite sense is dropped for the recognition that infinite divine Principle is now in operation as its own perfect nature and experience.

Barn House, October 12

I think you are asking the wrong questions! It is not a matter of, How do I get there? It is, Where am I starting? Since mortals “…never had a perfect state of being, which may subsequently be regained” (S&H 476:14-15) it is clear that you cannot start with nothing and try to turn it into something. To begin with God means to begin with Mind as your Mind now, and then you know as Mind, as Truth, and you experience everything as Life, instead of as a mortal trying to achieve these things.

This means that you watch thought only. “Are thoughts divine or human? That is the important question” (S&H 462:23). To identify yourself as a person called CS, who is trying to prove Truth, is an impossible posture. To reckon yourself as person is to stay there.

Now take S&H 191:8-15 and see that this whole misapprehension of existence, and that which has believed in it, has absolutely nothing to do with you. It never has had, and your antedating of the whole mortal story is the fact. Let thought be full of what is true from the standpoint of Love, of Truth, of Life, etc., and dwell on these things and do not permit a personal sense of things to enter. This is the discipline, if you like, but the reward is to live as the stature of the fullness of Christ instead of as a discontented mortal.

Barn House, October 20, 1999

What you said the other day was much nearer the mark! There is no mortal ego. See S&H 416:16 only. Nothing that claims to be said, thought, done within the terms of reference of this so-called ego is ever true for it is the human concept, “…sometimes beautiful, always erroneous” (S&H 277:31-32). Only that which is true from the standpoint of the divine Mind, Love, is true: and thoughts proceeding from this Mind are always in terms of oneness, allness, perfection, universality, joy, abundance, safety, and loveliness.

Barn House, November 29

We are told to take the book and eat it up. Why? Because any science as a textbook contains the rules, ideas and laws that constitute the practice of this science. Spiritual Science is no different. We have the Textbook and this Textbook embodies (is the body of) the Principle of this Science. In eating it up we partake of, or take part in, the divine nature. We are being the embodiment, the body, of the knowledge of God. This surely is what Jesus meant when he said, “…Take, eat; this [not flesh and bones] is my body” (Matt. 26:26). This is the body, the temple, of the living God, and you are this body. Embodying the substance of this Textbook you will find you are being the body of good, of Life, of Love; and this dissolves a false sense of body as material and unsatisfied. But you do not put right the dream from within the dream.

Barn House, December 7

Thank you for your letter. I am sure you really know the impossibility of person dropping person or of becoming idea. You cannot start there now, and then get somewhere else, nor begin as nothing and attain as something! The dream is dropped as we know the supremacy of Truth, by which we see the nothingness of error. S&H 569:8-10 and margin.

Begin your work with the acknowledgement of what is true from the standpoint of Truth, and do not let the picture of a mortal, for better or worse, come into consideration. It is the illusion, and not worth your attention let alone your condemnation.

You can never be a satisfied mortal, but you do live here and now as a state of infinite self-satisfaction. ‘I AM satisfied with My work, and there is no other.’

Barn House, December 11

Do study S&H 257:30-8. You cannot have a mortal limited mind to know Truth. They are contradictions. But you live as infinite Mind in self-expression, and in this pure Mind there has never been a limited mortal sense, contaminated by human hypotheses. You cannot think about Mind, for that would entail a limited sense thinking about the infinite, and so it gets nowhere. You know as Mind.

The impossibility of the lesser thinking about the greater and glimpsing the truth of being as something outside of itself, leads to the human craving and dissatisfaction with such an approach. The answer is always to take Mind’s point of view and so enjoy the satisfaction, freedom, and bliss of everything seen from the heart of divine Love.

Barn House, December 27

Thank you for your card and report. Do not get frustrated by the way the mortal misapprehension of yourself behaves. The fact is that “Every function of the real man is governed by the divine Mind” (S&H 151:20), and this is all that is true of you now. The fact is that you do live as a state of total satisfaction and fulfillment, and you have never lived as that which material sense believes you to be.

I AM WHAT I AM is the inescapable fact, and in its eternal presence the mists of ignorance disperse and dispel. But you are never in them—nor have they anything to do with you. Nothing alters what you are now and by staying with this, and not the material picture, the latter can only fade out in your presence.

April 23, 2004

When in a movie, if you do not like the picture on the screen you would not attempt to alter the screen. It might well appear that things were taking place over there, but your understanding would assure you that despite the appearance, everything was really going on in the projector. S&H says that “Human thought never projected the least portion of true being” (126:9-10). The reason is that there is no human mind to project a human thought. The belief in such a mind is all there is to the thoughts and products it claims to produce.

We read that Mind alone sees, and also that “Man, whose senses are spiritual, is my likeness” (S&H 252:32). Hence: ‘man, whose senses belong to Me, and therefore, who has no sense of his own with which to see or be aware of anything’. In other words, man is what is seen but is not a see-er. The belief that man sees carries with it the belief that what it sees is ‘over there’ and something has to be done about it. But this is like a mirage, where things appear to be where they are not. A supposition that man can see or do anything is all there is to the so-called experience. In fact, like the mirage, the problem is not external to consciousness but knocks at the door of thought to try and claim identity and location. The admission of a claim is all there is to it, and this is why it is more important to know that your Mind can make no such admission than it is to spend time on the claim presenting itself. The fact remains that God alone sees and that it is Soul’s seeing, or divine awareness, that constitutes man in God’s likeness.

You are not trying to alter a single thing, because in reality there is not even a screen. Soul-seeing constitutes all that is seen, and this divine awareness constitutes no problems. We waste time trying to do battle with something that does not exist. This is sometimes called “tilting at windmills”! A belief constitutes the believer, and neither is true. A false belief about sight is never personal. It is not yours, nor is it an oculist’s. It is nothing.

March 20, 2004

Many thanks for your letter.

Such is the oneness of God and man that when the thoughts of the divine Mind constitute your thinking, then God Himself is constituting the thoughts and acting as you. Understanding is a quality of God, and is another name for man. Man is understanding, not an understander. S&H 577:10-11 says, “In this divinely united spiritual consciousness, there is no impediment…” There is nothing to come between Mind and its thoughts, and you should not be hesitant in claiming that your ability to understand is that of Omnipotence itself, and not a human trying to know more about God. Only in this way can you “…act as possessing all power…” (S&H 264:11)—because man lives as all power in action.

July 1

I think you might look at S&H 258:1-8. A mortal cannot grasp the truth, because the finite cannot comprehend the infinite. The true conception of everything has to be from the standpoint of Principle, cause. All that is true of anything is the idea of it, not the belief about it. The idea of abundance, for example, is the true sense that the divine Mind holds, and it is inexhaustible, replenishing, etc. The belief about it is money. The idea of health is the wholeness of being. The belief about it is bodily condition. The belief is always insufficient to supply the idea. So to expect anything to happen to reassure, support, boost, or supply, is to invite disappointment and a feeling of inadequacy. The oneness of true being needs and can have no boost from the outside.

The word ‘insulin’ comes from the Latin meaning an island. To live as an island in the sea of humanity, called a mortal, is to live as inadequacy’s selfhood. Everything for this so-called island comes from the outside, is threatened by the outside and is, more often than not, deprived by an outside. Living as the Life that is actually yours now, is to experience self-completeness, self-replenishment, self-sustenance, self-rejuvenation, etc. There is no answer to the problems and inadequacies of person from within person! Only in something bigger—which is actually what you are.

May 23

MBE speaks of “…the false stimulus and reaction of will-power…” (S&H 186:2-3). Will power can be broadly classified as the belief one can do anything on one’s own separate from God. We can see that really the whole of mortal existence is just this. It is reaction to false stimulae. All the testimony comes from outside: therefore we react to it. All true evidence comes from within: and so, is the spiritual activity of the divine Mind. It is action, not reaction, and so requires no stimulus or boost from without. S&H 264:15-19 is helpful in this connection.

Man is not an entity separate from God, trying to prove his sonship. Man is the consciousness of Mind, and as such is one with Mind, and Mind does the providing. Man is the proof. This is the basis from which we work—the present wholeness and oneness of God and man, Mind and idea.

So what is more real to you? The testimony of the senses, or the facts gathered from Mind? In the first case, you react, and feel ‘inadequate’. In the second, you start perfect as the Father, and live as the experience of all the Father is showing you.

April 22

Your Mind is awake. It is aware of the facts, and it is untouched by any human beliefs, good, bad or indifferent. “The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it” (Proverbs 10:22). You have nothing to do with that limited, inadequate, deficient sense of life called a mortal. There is no mortal. The impression that there is, and all the problems it includes, is nothing other than the veil spread over all nations, the carnal mind or mesmerism. The carnal mind has no location or identity. We deny it because it is nothing: not, to make it nothing. Your Life is God and is as good, powerful, abundant, free and safe as God, because it is one Life.

No good comes to you. You include it as your divine nature. Love sustains, guides, protects, maintains, heals—through wiping out a false sense of need. You need nothing.

Barn House, December 5, 1998

On travel, if you think you live in person, then in turn you find yourself in an aeroplane. But infinity is never in anything. This is why the term in is obsolete in Science (see Glossary). You in-clude all good, because man is the compound idea of God including all right ideas. You include the idea of omnipresence, of abundance, of safety, etc. There is nothing outside. Only finite sense thinks there is an outside, and so regards itself as a bit threatened by circumstance. You are not in anything and living as allness you live as omnipresent good. All as one and One as all.

September 14th

Thank you for your call, and I had already received your letter explaining the dream picture!

How restful to know that we never have to know the truth about something, nor is there ever anything to put right. When MBE speaks of ‘practical’ Christian Science she surely means that its practicality lies in the oneness and allness of good, with nothing outside on which there has to be any effect. It is never practical to perpetuate the belief of a situation other than God by thinking it is something to be changed!

The spiritual fact is the undivided garment. There are no bits to be reconciled; no bits to be balanced; no bits to demand or supply. Divine activity, the Father’s business, is just one infinite, indivisible whole of good. Love, the underived, and so the undeprived, alone is Life. There is no other.

Every picture of material existence is simply the mirage. It is never a conscious, living presence. It cannot touch the divine activity that you are. It hasn’t got to be eradicated because it never was. I, Mind, dwelling in the realm of Mind, am All. There is no other. I have no sense whereby to cognise evil of any kind—not even healed evil.

So we rejoice at the abundance, wholeness, intelligence, integrity and oneness of our being, knowing that this precludes even a claim to an opposite.

October 20

The great thing to remember is that all disease and any problem is always an experience of mortal mind. So it is not what it seems to be, nor is it ever your experience. It remains aggressive mental suggestion, and it is its claim to masquerade as ‘I’ that is to be silenced. It is not what it says, but its right to speak and take your name in vain, that is disputed.

The fact is that I live as My own self-experience of Life in every detail. In this Life, all is self-renewing, self-perpetuating, self-existent. There is nothing to disturb, or to be disturbed anywhere in My infinite being. I have never been subject to material conditions, for there are none. Love, the underived, alone is Life.

I was glad of the news of the children. Belief says that education is about instilling impressions into a human mind. Science says that we live as the self-expression of the divine Mind. In photography, an impression can only be made on a negative, but the Textbook says that man is not controlled by a negative mind. There is nothing outside of the infinite One to make an impression or exert pressure, and the one Mind is not a conductor for such things. Yes, I love the way you worked about 11 September. What things? indeed!

On education costs, there is only one dollar. A row of noughts cannot make it more. A spiritual idea contains within itself all that is required for its nourishment, maintenance and growth.

October 30, 2004

It is always a delight to have news of your close and happy family. You have certainly been seeing some lovely country.

It occurred to me that perhaps you could take your excellent thinking one stage further by avoiding a reference to God in the third person. God is the only I, or Ego, and it is quite legitimate for you to declare, from the depths of the great I AM, and without a vestige of personal ego: ‘All this beauty that I see is Me (not Him)’. This is what it means to be alone, all one, with your own being as your subjective experience.

May 14, 2004

You probably know that MBE said that we accept only 1% of available good. This miserable amount is because we identify with that miserable bit of existence called a mortal whose world is outside of him and so mostly out of reach. Looking out from the standpoint of divine Mind, or I, the whole universe is the outpouring of your own being and therefore in no way limited.

Barn House, September 3, 1999

The passage in S&H 303:30-2 continues to occupy thought. The evidence before the material senses does not ever yield to evidence before the spiritual sense. Material sense constitutes the material sense and experience of its own upside down view of being. Spiritual sense is Love’s own sweet sense of Life and Truth, and constitutes Spirit’s man or manifestation. The spiritual sense of being is man. See Un. 21:21. There is nothing ‘before’ the spiritual sense of things because there is no objectivity. The spiritual sense is the true sense and substance of everything.

The human desire is always to try to stop the material evidence being real, instead of recognizing that the material sense and its experience are one and the same thing, and are mortal mind. Material sense cannot help reporting a material sense of things—reporting on itself. But spiritual sense, God’s own sense, lifts consciousness into eternal Truth where there is just Truth being conscious of its own infinitude—which is man. In every case the sense of something is that thing. We can never try to alter evidence; our only concern is the sense which is occupying thought and which constitutes its own evidence. See S&H 171:31-2.

As image, man does not experience a sense of anything. Man is the experience of that Mind that alone sees, hears, feels, knows, demonstrates. Man is not aware of anything as image, but is the awareness of Mind. Man, as image, does not live in man, see as man, experience as man, but is always that which the original sees and experiences. Only God can see man, just as only the original before the mirror can see the image in the mirror. Hence, “We know no more of man as God’s likeness than we know of God”, and also S&H 126:2-7 where we see that, in order to see what reflection is, we have to look from the other side of the glass.

… yes, everything is subjective. The Lesson speaks of “…the externalized, yet subjective, states of faith and spiritual understanding” (S&H 512:15-16). That which is within may appear to come forth as the external, but it remains as idea in Mind. Only as we think that the apparently external is external do we place our sense of things in the dream. The “…form of the fourth…” (Dan. 3:25) in the furnace was their understanding of the presence of the Christ: though, to the onlookers, it appeared externalised in the way they could appreciate, namely, as the form of the fourth.

“This Mind does not make mistakes and subsequently correct them” (S&H 206:29-30). Accidents (mistakes) are unknown to God. So they have never occurred, and the understanding of this appears as the mistake being rectified and recompensed.

No Date

There is one universe, and the spiritual fact about everything in it—in your Mind—is alone true. Hence, in Hebrews (11:3) we read, “Through faith [understanding] we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God [thoughts], so that things which are seen [discerned spiritually] were not made [of the substance] of things which do appear [to material sense]”.

The belief about some spiritual fact is not separate from that fact but is that fact seen through the limited vision of a so-called material sense. But the limited sense of something is not an alternative to the same thing discerned through the lens of Science. Therefore we cannot dismiss anything that appears to be unpleasant, and just say ‘this is not real, or true’. It is the reality or truth, seen wrongly. The lens of Science lets us see everything as it is, so that the sin, suffering, sickness and mortality that appear to material sense, are transmuted by divine Love into the reality they are. This is what is meant by the need to “…translates matter into its original language, which is Mind…” (Hea. 7:8-10).

Either all is Mind, and that Mind, your Mind, is all, or it isn’t anywhere. If it is, then we are always seeing the universe of our Mind, however different it may appear to be to material sense. A false standpoint “presents an inverted picture of Mind and substance with everything turned upside down” (see S&H 301:24-29). But it is still Mind and substance. And in Science, there is no material sense or mortal mind (the only error), and no inverted picture.

With the eyes of Love we see light instead of darkness, wholeness instead of lack and disease, strength instead of weakness, abundance instead of penury. We do not fight or argue with the inverted picture. We love the truth enough to see the upright man(ifestation) instead. “The greatest wrong is but a supposititious opposite of the highest right” (S&H 368:1-2).

Science, understanding, reveals the divinity of everything. This divinity of things that are seen (discerned spiritually) will appear to the level of limited vision in the form that is appreciable. “He [Jesus] expressed the highest type of divinity, which a fleshly form could express in that age” (S&H 332:29-30). But the appearing is not the seeing or being. The spiritual fact embraces the human concept but the human concept is never other than the limited sense of the spiritual idea.

No Date

S&H 303:28-30 provides added insight when we read ‘thought’ for man, for Mind is the Father of thought only. “Spiritual man is the image or idea of God, an idea which cannot be lost nor separated from its divine Principle.” You cannot separate thought, or consciousness, from Mind. When thought is grounded on the Rock, it cannot be shocked by anything that mortal mind is saying or doing. Only material testimony can be shaken, and this is not your sense of being.

Do not be diverted into watching the external, and so losing your calm sense of oneness with your Mind. ‘To be externally minded is death’ as Paul might have put it.

S&H 124:25-31. “Spirit is the life, substance, and continuity of all things. We tread on forces. Withdraw them, and creation must collapse. Human knowledge calls them forces of matter; but divine Science declares that they belong wholly to divine Mind, are inherent in this Mind, and so restores them to their rightful home and classification.”

There are no material forces—political, economic, social, medical. The fact that human knowledge calls them otherwise does not touch the fact. The problem is always in the misnomer, so it is nothing. Nothing takes place at a human level. For instance, there is no human sense of precision and rightness. It is always the divine, not entirely hidden by the belief it is human. Do not let a human sense of precision, which is always balanced against something that does not seem right, to touch you.

September 1997

Of course, it does not help very much to ‘know that God is in control.’ In control of what? I fear this is a bit of Christian Science jargon!

Take a look at these references: S&H 467:21-22 and margin; 588:22-23; 475:14-15; 151:26-28; 591:16-18.

In Science you learn that the I, or Ego, is Mind, not man, and that man manifests but does not include Mind. Mind, I, includes its own sense of being: My sense of everything is inviolate; it remains in Me, and is subject to what I know about it. So you are never in an aeroplane, but you, as Mind-manifest, include the right idea about it, which is the omnipresence of Love needing to go nowhere to be omnipresent.

Finite, personal sense sees everything to be outside of itself, and so believes it is in an aeroplane, an age or income group, a country, a house, a job, and generally in a fix! Living as the compound idea of God—God’s idea of His own all-inclusive being—you are constituted of all the ideas, or thoughts, of God, including safety, joy, freshness, etc. You have no responsibility, but live as the response to Mind’s ability.

Th October 1988

“My world has sprung from Spirit,

In everlasting day;

Whereof, I’ve more to glory,

Wherefor, have much to pay.”

(Mis. Foreword)

The question was raised, what does it mean “much to pay”?

I think the answer to your question on the poem is implied in her question, “Why did he thus summarize her debt to divine Love?” (S&H 363:24) Our indebtedness to Love means we cannot be indebted to the world for Love is the underived, and the objective world is derived. The greater our belief that the world is our debtor, the greater our indebtedness to the world. “This is the new understanding of spiritual Love. It gives all for Christ, or Truth” (S&H 33:21)—it drops all belief of objectivity for the subjective nature of being within. It gives nothing for all. We pay our debts in this way.

Barn House, 19th February 1996

I was glad you called back yesterday. We will not come down to good or bad news, since Mind needs nothing in matter to confirm or deny what is. (S&H 311:3) Man is a state of Soul-satisfaction, and it is Soul, not expression, that is satisfied. That is the order of divine Science in which the Principle is above what it reflects. (S&H 240:10) This is why there can be no fluctuation. I love The Saviour’s Mission in Unity of Good in this respect, especially 61:9-16.

As to eyes, mortal mind says ‘I this’ one day and ‘I that’ the next. But it is never talking about or to you, but always to and about itself. Your Christ says to it all, ‘I know you not’.

I am so glad to read in your letter that you are unseeing the belief of a self-condemning person. The Publican was the other end of the stick to the Pharisee, but they were both personal sense. Mind never expressed condemnation. The fountain cannot rise above its source, so it is no good expecting person to give up person. There never was a person to give up. Starting from Principle there never was a false sense, for I, Mind, never knew it. Mind does not even say ‘I am willing to part with a false sense’. There has only ever been My idea of everything.

I feel Jesus’ prayer “I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one” (John 17:23) covers the picture of your daughter. There is no other mind to be enlightened or changed, but Jesus did pray for those he loved to “be with me where I AM”. I think you will enjoy the very last thing Jesus said to his disciples in John 20:22-23. He said, “Receive ye the Holy Ghost” (Divine Science). And then he defined Science in the words that follow, which simply say that the remission or the retention of any trouble is carried out here, in consciousness, and not ‘over there’ in an attempt to deal with ‘otherness’. In other words, subjective being. The picture comes to you at the point of consciousness. It does not matter what it is called. It is a phase of mortal belief coming to your Christ to give itself up. The more you know as Mind that there is no other mind the more it appears as another mind asking for what you can give.

As to the idea the moon is under your feet. There is no planetary influence. This belief is so fundamental in human thinking, and we are here to dispel it. Enoch lived 365 years, symbolizing the full turn of all the planets, and was not. The only influence is “…a divine influence ever present in human consciousness…” (S&H xi:16-17). This spell is to be broken like any other. I know this because I once had a similar thing to meet over a period of some years.

Body

October 18

All is Mind and its manifestation. So all is consciousness. The stuff you are made of is consciousness. Even in belief, there is nothing to you but awareness, nothing but mental activity: your thinking does not affect your body, your thinking is your body. In Science, our Mind is God and you live as the mental activity of this one Mind. You do not have a body, but you are the divine awareness that is the embodiment, or body, of God.

There is no extension to consciousness: no person through which or on which consciousness has to work. You live as awareness: not a person aware of God, good, but the divine awareness or mental activity of God Himself. The power to know good is the power of God, not a person thinking about God. Man does not think about God. Man is the knowing that God is doing about Himself, the mental activity of the infinite divine Mind which is this Mind in self-reflection.

What and where is there a place for matter in this total consciousness? That is why ‘matter is error’ not substance. To what could something extraneous attach itself? Where could there be an impediment or block in this oneness of God and His knowing?

MBE speaks of the “penalty which our beliefs would attach to our best deeds”. (See S&H 585:10-11) The moment life is an effort and we think there is a mortal, the penalty of personal sense is attached along with all the trouble it includes. That is why we pray that “mere personal attachment” (Man. 40:5) should not impel the motives or acts of the CS.

“For God to know is to be” (No and Yes 16:1-2). The Mind that I AM is the body that I AM. I live as the allness of Mind knowing, Mind and its manifestation, Principle and idea, Father and Son.

October

On the question of clients I think I see it more simply. Error begins with plurality. So there are not clients and you. There is the one Altogether Lovely unfolding itself as all. This is the truth that “gives seed to the sower and bread to the eater”, and it is one truth. See the divine oneness of “I in them and thou in me”(John 17:23)—just one intelligent Mind supplying all Mind through itself.

Study is not a mortal trying to gain truth. We resolve things into thoughts, so the books as things have to be resolved into the ideas and inspiration they contain. Then what appears to be a human understanding Truth is actually the divine Mind enjoying itself despite and not because of any human belief about it.

Take care of your body as a bit of furniture. I have said this before. The qualities of neglect, strain, even of demand, and indifference, are neither wisely human nor divinely natural. You bestow the qualities of care, attention and gentleness on all you experience. This includes what is called the body.

There is no association of past or remote beliefs with you. Why? Because the one Ego is all-inclusive being, exempt from all that stems from plurality. The Ego cannot inherit anything from a mortal nor is it influenced by a mortal. You have no “ties of the flesh” (S&H 31:4).

We do not come to the end of an epoch. We live now as the functioning presence of divine Life. Mortal beliefs pass away, but we do not pass on with them nor does anyone. Our divinity is the only fact. It is we who are the departed for we have departed from material sense and cannot go back to what was never a fact. We should be living as eternal Life now and holding the same to be true of all. The belief of life in matter is the first death, and we are no part of it. Life is the one I AM. Omnipresence does not go anywhere to be omnipresent nor is there anywhere for it to go.

Remember, the reason that MBE writes of mind and Mind is that what we accept as awareness is the I of our being, the Mind that we call God. The mortal ego is existence seen through the senses and is nothing. That is why you cannot take in anything that does not emanate from the divine Mind.

Let us be clear that we are not trying to turn stones into bread. We are not in the healing business in the sense of changing matter. Our treatment is from the standpoint that now and here is the Elohistic record in which all evil has never had a place. It is still before the world was. Error does not improve: it recedes. How? In the presence of the Mind that is God.

What you accept as mind constitutes your ego and experience. Consciousness or awareness from the standpoint of the divine Mind is the real and only Ego. It is the I AM announcing its own glory to itself, and this constitutes yourself. It never knew a mortal. Awareness from the standpoint of the divided sense of life called a mortal is the mirage called a mortal ego and it has no life in it.

What we accept as I for ourself or for anyone or anything constitutes and determines the AM or experience. “…this Mind forms its own likeness” (S&H 216:32-1). Being the awareness of the divine Mind is being the Son or consciousness of God. Being the awareness of mortal mind is being the offspring of sense. Everything you see is consciousness. That is why the spiritual fact that we are now the Son or consciousness of God doth not yet appear and cannot ever appear to personal sense.

Matter cannot confirm Spirit because we are not turning stones into bread. So we do not watch the human evidence for storm or shine. Be the Mind that was Christ Jesus.

You do not live as a person, not even as a ‘spiritualized’ person. You live as the one Ego: as the I AM. This means that when you pray, you leave the whole of the mortal—its entirety—for you or anyone else, outside the closet. Then, in the sanctuary, from which treatment is given, you plead and enjoy God’s allness. This is prayer. You listen to God announcing Himself to Himself and know that this is all there is to yourself.

From the standpoint of the Ego you do not have a throat, nor in this oneness of God and man is there any “…impediment to eternal bliss…” (S&H 577:10). That which appears as throat stands for a spiritual idea included in your experience of the Ego in its flawless perfection. But, you do not have a private life so you do not have a private throat, so the belief of ‘impediment’ is not personalised, localised, nor materialised. It is suggestion, made by and to a mind that is not God and so is not your experience.

Let your own study be to get this sense of the Ego and this understanding that there is no matter, no material body, no person: just Mind’s divine conception of I.

You may care to read through the chapter on Creation (a better word is ‘conception’), which uses words like concept, idea, viewpoint, and thus shows that whereas creation to human sense is a physical event, to spiritual sense it is just the correct view or conception of being. And the offspring or result of the true conception of being is always the divinely anointed man and the Saviour to experience.

Let me know how this goes ahead and if anything is not clear. We do not work about throat but just to get the true concept of all things, and thus do we lose the mortal, personal concept and the ills it contains.

S&H 171:31-2. I AM just reveling in My own Life and there is no mind to feel in any other way. You cannot be fooled by what mortal mind says. There is no depression in body and no body to depression. The one body is the body, the Temple, of the living God, which you are.

S&H 14:16-18. When mentality is governed by Mind there is nothing unlike Mind to it.

If you broke the leg of the chair you were sitting on you would not think it was your leg! Likewise, the belief that you have a body that is you is simply suggestion. See S&H 416:16 only, and 216:28-1 and margin. Science teaches us to drop that limited, frustrated, finite sense of ‘i’ called the personal identity for Life as God now. This whole picture is not your condition but your patient, and you are the Christ or practitioner to it.

When error becomes uncomfortable it is always because Truth, which got there first, is pointing out that some aspect of belief is ready to give itself up.

Many thanks for your letter. I hope you are having a lovely vacation and are looking forward to teaching again.

From one standpoint, that of a bit of so-called life called a mortal, everything appears to be in bits which you hope may all go on doing what they should, but you are not sure they will! From a higher standpoint, that of the divine Mind, your Mind, everything is existing as one infinite, indivisible and coordinated whole. Here everything is subordinate to the Mind that forms and constitutes it.

Paul referred to these two standpoints when he said “…now I know in part …” (as a bit of existence) “…but then shall I know even as I am known” (1 Cor. 13:12). I shall know from the standpoint of Mind itself.

So the need is not to keep the old standpoint and hope all will be well, but to know from the only true standpoint where all IS well and safe.
