1) What role do they they play in our life?

Travelling develops our personality. It helps us understand and respect people of different cultural background. From time to time we all have to go to another city or country on business or for pleasure. And after a year’s work people go on holiday as they do not like to stay at home. People travel to see other countries and continents, modern cities and the ruins of ancient towns, they travel to enjoy picturesque [,pɪkʧ(ə)'resk] places or just for a change of scene [si:n]. It is always interesting to discover new things, see different ways of life, meet different people, try different food, listen to different musical rhythms ['rɪð(ə)mz].

Travelling on business gives people more information about achievements of other companies and helps them make their own business more successful.

Some people travel for educational purposes, or they visit their distant relatives and friends.

Tourism andrecreation have become great industries forfull-time careers. Hotel managers, tour guides, travel agents, cruise ship workers, amusement park employees do their best to make people’s holidays unforgettable.

2) What means of transport do you prefer and why?

Those who travel, either for pleasure or on business, have various means of transport at their disposal [dɪs'pəuz(ə)l]. We can travel by sea, by road or on foot. Although we all agree that the future lies with air transport.

As for me I prefer travelling by … (…train, plane, car, etc.) because it’s comfortable.

3) What questions should you ask a travel agent to learn more about a tour?

What excursions are included in the tour? What languages are spoken the area? What are the standards of behavior in that country? Are there any food preferences in that place? What is the weather like in there? What travelling forms do I have to produce when I travel? Do I need a passport or visa? What is the best time of the year for travelling to this destination?

4) What can you advise a person who doesn’t know where to spend his/her holiday?

Tastes differ. If a person doesn’t know where to spend his/her holiday, I think it would be nice to get advice of a professional travel agent though it’s really difficult to do in such a small place as ours. That’s why in my opinion it would be reasonable to surf the Internet and learn as much as possible about different destinations, choose something that appeals to him or her and discuss it with friends.

5) What difficulties can you have when visiting a foreign country? Is it possible to avoid them?

Visiting a foreign country, people usually face some problems connected with cultural peculiarities ([pɪ,kju:lɪ'ærətɪz] особенности) and traditions different from their own. To avoid possible difficulties one should get acquainted with some standards of behavior in this or that country beforehand and then follow the proverb “ When in Rome, do as the Romans do ”.

And, of course, knowing the language of the country will be of great help though it’s not always possible. In such a case, I think English will be useful in most of the countries.
