Federal Bureau of Investigation

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is an agency of the United States Department of Justice that serves as both a federal criminal investigative body and an internal intelligence agency. The FBI has investigative jurisdiction over violations of more than 200 categories of federal crime. Its motto is "Fidelity, Bravery, Integrity", corresponding to the FBI initials.

Mission
To protect and defend the United States against terrorist and foreign intelligence threats, to uphold and enforce the criminal laws of the United States, and to provide leadership and criminal justice services to federal, state, municipal, and international agencies and partners.

Priorities
In executing the following priorities, FBI will produce and use intelligence to protect the nation from threats and to bring to justice those who violate the law.

People & Leadership On December 31, 2009, FBI had a total of 33,652 employees. That includes 13,412 special agents and 20,240 support professionals, such as intelligence analysts, language specialists, scientists, information technology specialists, and other professionals. Budget & Strategic Plan In fiscal year 2008, the total FBI’s budget was approximately $6.8 billion, including $410 million in program enhancements for intelligence, counterterrorism, laboratory, information technology, and cyber security. Locations FBI works literally around the globe. Along with the Headquarters in Washington, D.C., there are 56 field offices located in major cities throughout the U.S., 400+ resident agencies in smaller cities and towns across the nation, and more than 60 international offices called “Legal Attaches” in U.S. embassies worldwide.
