1. Canada occupies a great part of the North American Continent. The area is about 9 million square kilometres and it is the second largest country in the world.

Most of Northern Canada has subarctic and arctic climate. Long cold winters last 8-11 months and summers are very short. But in the South the climate is temperate.

3. There are many lakes in Canada. The biggest of them are the Great Lakes, which are on the US-Canada border. Niagara Falls attract a lot of tourists from all over the world.

4. Canada is a highly developed industrial and agricultural country. It is a world leader in the production of nickel, asbestos and other minerals. Canada has an ideal climate for growing wheat and barley. It is among the world's leading wheat producers and is second in the export of wheat.

5. The population of Canada is 24 million people. English and French are the official languages of Canada and have equal status and equal rights. Canada is a federation often provinces and two northern territories. Ottawa is the capital of Canada with the population of 800,000 people.

AUSTRALIA

1. Australia is a large country lying between the Indian and Pacific oceans. Australia is an island, like Britain, but unlike Britain it is vast.

2. Australia is the world’s driest continent, huge areas are so dry that they are not inhabitant. There are rainforests in the north, snowfields in the south-east, desert in the centre and fertile croplands in the south and south-west.

3. Australia was discovered by Captain James Cook in 1770. At that time England had many social problems, crime level was very high, so the King sent most of the prisoners to far colonies, to Australia. In 1901 Australia became a nation within the British Empire under Queen’s Victoria rule. And in 1931 it gained independence from Great Britain.

4. Australia is a very urban country. About 70% of the population live in the 10 largest cities. Canberra is the capital, but it is not the biggest city. Sydney and Melbourne are much larger.

5. Australians love their wildlife. This country is well-known for its rare animals who inhabit only Australian territory. They are kangaroos, platypus, echidna, dingoes, wombats and some others.
