V. The procedure of the lesson

Preliminaries

A) greeting

- Good morning children!

B) a talk with a pupil on duty

- Who is on duty today?

- What day is it today?

- Who is absent today?

- What is the weather like today?

- Do you like such weather, why?

D) talk on the subject of the lesson

Today our theme of the lesson is national cuisine. Do you know what the word ‘cuisine’ means? We will speak about food, different kinds of dishes, and also we will speak about second conditionals, we will get to know how to form and use it.

Time: 4 minutes

2. Reading. The pupils read the text “British meals” on page 55.

Now look at page 55, here is the text, read it and be attentive, we will have a task after reading.

Time: 4 minutes

3. Writing. Post reading activity. The pupils get the cards with missing information and complete it.

Here are the cards with missing information, your task is to complete the table.

1. breakfast  
2. main meal of the day  
3. afternoon tea  
4. high tea

4. Speaking. Post reading activity. The pupils work in pairs, take turns asking and answering questions.

Look at page 56, Ex. 3, take turns asking and answering questions.

5. Reading. The pupils read the text and say what a Ukrainian specialty each paragraph mentions about.

You should read the text and guess what a Ukrainian specialty each paragraph mentions about.

Time: 4 minutes

6. Speaking. Post reading activity. The pupils work in groups and try to discuss the teacher’s questions.

Think about information you’ve got from the text and discuss the following questions:

1) What is the difference between meals and meal-times in England and Ukraine?

2) Do national Ukrainian dishes differ from those of English?

Time: 3 minutes

7. Writing. The pupils get cards with the words, they should put them into the right column

Look at your cards, there you can see the box with words. You should put them into the right column.

Grammar presentation.

We use the 2nd conditional to express things which are very unlikely or impossible. We can also use it to describe imaginary actions for unsatisfied conditions in present.

2nd conditional = if + Past Simple + would/ could + infinitive

If I were you, I would choose roast beef

With the 2nd conditional, the verb to be in the past time is always expresses as were.

Correct: I wouldn’t go to the party if I were you

 

Incorrect: I wouldn’t go to the party if I was you

9. Writing. Grammar. The pupils do Ex.5, p. 57.

Your task is to complete 2nd conditionals by changing the form of the verb in brackets.

Time: 5 minutes

10. Speaking. Food questionnaire.

The pupils play the game, they try to answer teacher’s questions, the most active pupil get a prize.

I’ll ask you some questions, if you know the answer – rise your hand.

Can you name:

· one red fruit, one yellow and one green fruit?

· three kind of food which are made from milk?

· two things that a strict vegetarian doesn’t eat?

· four things people have for breakfast?

· five things people eat between meals?

· six vegetables you can put in a salad?

· seven things which are usually on a table in a restaurant?

Time: 6 minutes

11. Writing. The pupils change the sentences of real condition into sentences of unreal condition.

Your task is to change the sentences of real condition into sentences of unreal condition. Ex. 6, p.59.

Time: 4 minutes
