Driving (350)

The driver of the car is the one that drives the car, or operates the car. Driving a car takes skill and practice to master. To be a proficient driver, the person must pass a test before getting the license. A legal driver must have a license every time they are behind the wheel.

Driving test (351)

In reference to paragraph 13, you are eligible to get a driver’s permit in high school when you are fifteen. You must pass a driver’s test before you actually drive the car with a permit. The test will have a bunch of factual questions about traffic and the cars properties (parts). The test is very general and broad with questions you should know the answer to. The test is computerized and you submit it and wait until the results come in a few days that determine that you can drive with a licensed person.

Special licenses (352)

A special license is a license that lets you drive certain vehicles. A regular license only lets you drive a car, that’s it. If you work for a construction company and need to use an excavator, you need to have an excavator license to operate it. The same with all of the following vehicles; buses, airplanes, RV’s, motorcycles, street sweepers, trains, boats, and other special utility vehicles. You get a special license from the company that you work for after passing a driving test on that particular vehicle.

Buses (353)

A bus is a vehicle that transports people who don’t have access to cars at times. A bus can run locally in a city with a short route or it can drive across the country express. These buses in most cases are public transportation services. Anyone who has some spare change can ride a bus if they don’t want to walk. A bus can hold up to 100 people and (locally) can route for about a 15 mile distance in rare occasions. A bus has its engine in the back because in the front there is a door to let people. In the rear there is a door to let people out. A bus can be an electrically powered trolley, or it can be a stretch articulated bus with 3 or 4 doors that hold up to 150 people.

Trains (354)

A train or engine (a name for a diesel train) is a stretched cabin if many wheels connected to rails. All trains run on rails. A train can haul tons and tons of cargo behind the engine. That cargo can be passengers as well. A passenger is a person who rides in any public transportation vehicle. A train can be an underground subway or a speed train that goes to and from different places and different countries even. Trains are known to be the fastest way of ground transportation after cars.

Airplanes (355)

Airplanes are considered vehicles even if they fly above ground. Airplanes are the fastest vehicles for transportation worldwide. These vehicles use jet fuel to transport people to different countries overseas with a long distance in a few hours. Airplanes are driven by a pilot who is responsible of the planes commands. A plane was wings connected to the body of the plane where passengers sit. A plane has a huge engine in the back with one huge muffler. The jets of the plane are on the wings that give the plane a boost to increase in altitude (farther away from ground).

RV’s (356)

An RV is an abbreviation for Recreational Vehicle. This vehicle is like an apartment in a house with a steering wheel. These huge vehicles are very expensive, but are ideal for a cross country trip by car. You need a special license to drive this because its huge and has different properties from a regular car. It’s a heavy duty vehicle with tons of weight, so the driver has to know how to drive it.

Motorcycles (357)

Motorcycles are 2 or 3 wheeled vehicles that are similar to bicycles. They have the body of a bicycle with the characteristics of a vehicle. Motorcycles have good acceleration and travel at fast speeds. Legally one person is supposed to ride the vehicle, thus being the driver. He has a helmet on, but no seat belt. It is recommended to wear a yellow shirt while driving a motorcycle at night for precautions. Motorcycles are gasoline powered vehicles only, but have a 2 or 3 times as small capacity of gasoline as a car has.

Trucks (358)

A truck can be known as any vehicle that transports cargo on the road. A truck can be an 18- wheeler with a trailer, a semi delivery truck such as a moving company or postal company, or just a 4 by 4 pick-up truck. A truck and trailer is the biggest truck on the roads, also known as the 18-wheeler. Since the truck is heavy duty, it has two wheels stacked upon each other to make one wheel for heavy duty support. A trailer has 4 of these tires, which are 8 regular tires. The actual truck that’s hauling the trailer has only 2 wheels on the front for steering, and 8 wheels on the back where the trailer is attached to the truck. A truck consumes twice as much gas as a regular car, that’s why trucks are diesel.

Boats/ships (359)

Boats and ships are water vehicles. A speed boat is a vehicle because it has a motor turbine that lets it go in fast speeds. A row boat, however, is not a vehicle, but can transport people. A ship is a huge boat that transports many people or cargos overseas. A captain is the person who drives this kind of vehicle.

Vehicle Maintenance (360)

A vehicle is occasionally repaired and checked upon. A vehicle that needs maintenance goes to the mechanic or garage. A vehicle gets a yearly check by a mechanic. To prove that the vehicle you are driving has been checked upon, there is a sticker that is stuck to the windshield with the number month the car was first inspected (the day purchased).

Traffic regulations (361)

Any vehicle density on one road is the roads traffic. High traffic density means the cars are moving very slowly due to an accident or road construction. Traffic regulations and signs help prevent accidents. A car accident is a two or more car crash on a road. Some traffic signs can be…

1. Stop signs (362)

A stop sign is a red octagon with STOP written with big letters. Before passing this sign, the vehicle must make a full stop. These are usually located in residential 4-way all way intersections. Running a stop sign is a traffic violation.

2. Yield signs (363) A yield sign is an upside down triangle with a red line going around it. It doesn’t say the word yield. This sign means you have to wait for a car that is approaching an intersection before you switch into that street. You also yield to pedestrians crossing the street on a cross walk zebra (law). The yield sign is not to be confused with the stop sign because you don’t have to stop on a yield sign, just slow down. These signs are usually found at highway entrances and rotaries.

3. Squiggly sign (364)

The squiggly sign is a squiggly line with an arrow at one end. This sign describes a road that has twists and sharp turns.

4. Speed limits (365)

Every area has speed regulations. A speed limit sign has a number above the words SPEED LIMIT. That number is the speed that cars should travel in that area.

Concerts (378)

A concert is where teens and young adults have a good time listening to famous music sung by celebrities. Concerts mostly happen in Hollywood because it’s crawling with famous singers and celebrities. Concerts however are not free, you must purchase tickets. Even if people have to pay, they still crowd up the concert room.

A hotel is a big building with several hundred rooms where a person can stay by himself or with company, it doesn’t matter. You have to pay a daily rate because you rent the hotel room. The Hotel lobby is where you see the most people in a hotel, where they check in or walk around to wait for the taxi or something.

Airports (381)

An airport is where many people gather before boarding an airplane. An airport is a base where airplanes arrive/depart to/from any country in the world. Family members are widespread throughout the world, so families go to other countries to meet more of their family members from time to time during a vacation or special occasion. It is very costly to order airplane tickets, but its worth it to experience a part of your life in a different country.

Auditoriums (382)

An auditorium is a place where there are many people who watch a presentation by anyone. It has a stage with curtains where a person or a group of people can do a presentation watched by visitors. Lots of bad people who get caught doing something against the law by the police most likely get arrested for a number of weeks, months, years, or a lifetime depending on how serious the situation is. A room in a prison is called a cell where people stay at with 2 or 3 more cellmates behind bars.

Chapter 17: Law obediance

Laws (384)

Laws are limitations that are decided by the state government that affect every resident of this state as well as every visitor in the state. States have the same laws followed by the Country’s laws from the president, and separate states have some different laws other states don’t have. Laws are what guide us through life in the most perfect way possible to stop any discomfort to a person enjoying life. Without laws, the world would be out of control.

Nevada (385)

Nevada is state that has the same general laws by the United States government with one non- limitation law in the state only. There is no law in Nevada that states a person over 18 can’t gamble in a casino for money. This is why Nevada is known as the casino state in the USA. A casino is a place where people over 18 inhabit a room with gambling machine slots that give people money if they are lucky. You do have to pay for tokens to test slot machines, so it’s not completely free money. The jackpot amount is the highest amount of money that’s being gambled for.

Massachusetts (386)

Massachusetts is state like Nevada that has a certain manipulated law only in the state. That one law states that 2 people can be married in this state. This law differs from the laws in other states because, in other states, the law states a man and a woman can be married. This means same-gender marriages are legal in Massachusetts (gay).

Genaral laws (387)

A general law is a law a whole country shares with all of its locations.

Marriage contract (388)

A marriage is a commitment 2 people make by signing a commitment, otherwise called a contract, to stay together for as long as they both shall live. That commitment then turns into a certificate which both the husband and wife sign. It is then framed and put into their records.

Divorce contracts (389)

A divorce is a diversion of a marriage between 2 people. They already have sign the certificate proclaiming they will stay together for as long as they both shall live. That certificate however can be abolished if both the husband and wife agree to sign a contract against the marriage certificate called a divorce contract. Once this is signed, the couple agree to be separated forever long they shall live. This happens rarely, but not very rarely.

Housing (390)

A house is a place where a family lives for years and years until they move out. A house has an owner, or landlord. This person can live in his own house with his family. A house is not free, and the owner of the house has to pay off the houses price. A house can be a single to 4 family houses ranging between costs of 200,000 to 1,000,000 for a very elegant house. A landlord might need help to pay off his house by letting tenants rent a room or apartment for rent. Rent is a monthly price the landlord needs in order to pay off the house through a number of years of payments.

Lease (391)

A lease is a contract a tenant signs along with the landlord that states the tenant can live in this house for one year, promising to pay the monthly rent to the housing office (authority). A housing office is an office where the house a person lives in is financed and recorded to the city and state address book. Leases are signed yearly unless a tenant decides to move, then they start signing the leases every year from the day they moved in the house.

Contracts (392)

A contract is a legal statement that requires a signature in order for the written information to take effect. Once a contract is signed, it is and must be followed. If you are in violation of a contract, you will pay or get fired from a job.

Working contracts (393)

A working contract is a contract you and your employer signs before you start doing a job to make money. That contract stays in effect until the worker gets fired or quit on his own behave. If a worker does something terribly wrong (not a mistake) at his job, he his violation of his contract because he didn’t do what he was supposed to. If the boss suspects that, the worker will get fired. If a worker quits, that means he does not want to work here anyone. He will sign another resignation contract proving he does not want to work here anymore for whatever reason.

Criminal law (394)

Some people out in the open are criminals. They just do many things in this country that are against the law. If a police officer catches a criminal, he will get arrest or get marked up with a warrant for his arrest. A warrant gives a bad guy his last chance before he gets arrested and caught by the police with him doing something against the law.

Court (395)

A court is a place where people gather for a judge to decide upon a case. A case is a situation that has to be decide upon the client whether he is innocent or guilty. Innocent meaning he doesn’t face any charges, guilty meaning he is in fault and will face charges and jail depending on how serious the case is. A judge is the honor of the court who makes the final decision if the client is guilty or innocent. The judge may poll the courtroom guests to see what they think, innocent or guilty, in some cases.

Lawyer (396)

During a trial (case) in court, the client can bring a lawyer if he hired one. A lawyer can help his client in the court room by gathering legal evidence that the client is innocent. The lawyers job is the prove every statement of evidence that’s in honor of the client’s innocence. The client while being tried lets his lawyer do the talking, he just prays. If the client does not have a lawyer, he will lose the case.

Defendants/ witnesses (397)

A defendant is a person who however is not a lawyer who defends the clients word, proving he never did anything like this before. A defendant is a good relative or friend of the client who can say positive information about the client. A witness, however, is a person who heard about the illegally action the client did. An eye-witness is a bystander that saw details on what exactly happened during the clients illegal action. The (eye) witnesses explain all they know about the action to the judge and/or the clients lawyer.

Property law (398)

Property law is an important law that has to be followed. Property is anything that belongings to somebody else besides the city. That’s private property. Public property however can be used by anybody. For example, a sidewalk in a street is public property that belongs to the city. A house porch is private property that belongs to the owner of the property (no the city) or the tenant. If an unauthorized individual steps on private property without permission, he is in violation of property law as being a trespasser.

Permission for trespassing (399)

A person who is allowed by law to trespass on anybody’s property is a federal worker. A mailman has to step on some houses’ porches to reach to mailbox of the house. That mailman signed a contract promising he will not do damage to anybody’s private property. The contract says he can (if accepted) trespass on property because he is a worker for the federal bureau of deliveries. A police officer has the same and more privileges as a federal worker.

Damaging property with/without intend (400)

Property can be damaged by accident (no intend) or on purpose (intend). For example, there is a house next to a game of soccer on the next driveway. If the soccer ball breaks a window of the other persons house by mistake, that damage was not intended to happen. If a kid throws a rock aiming at the window of that house not belonging to him and breaks a window, the kid intended the damage. The owner of that house has the right to press charges to the mother/father of this kid to pay to fix the window.

Youth under 18 (401)

According to the previous paragraph, the kid who kicked the ball purposely to break the other houses window is not liable for damages because he is under 18. A child or young adult is not applicable by law to sign contracts, pay bills, have a federal job, claim liability (pay for damaged property), get married, get an ID or apply for insurance, drink, smoke, strip clubs, and go to jail (not juevy) etc.. These are all adult responsibilities that by federal law children cannot take part in. A child is an adult once he turns 18. The parents and/or guardians are responsible for their younger relatives under 18. Once a person turns eighteen, he is free from his guardians and is on his own. In that example, the kid cannot pay for the damaged window because he is not qualified to do that by law. His guardians pay instead because they are qualified due to their age.

Drunk Driving (402)

Drunk Driving is illegal in all countries. A few hours before a person drinks an alcoholic beverage is not supposed to drive, because he is drunk. A person goes mentally and/or physically crazy when he is drunk. They cannot cause multiple accidents, going crazy on the road due to driving under the influence of alcohol. If the police catches a meandering driver on the road, the driver will say he is not drunk. The police officer however has a tool called a breathalyzer that measures the amount of alcohol in the drivers blood. If the alcohol level is above 4%, he has too much alcohol in his blood. He will get arrest or fined for driving above the influence of alcohol.

Law enforcers/police officers (403)

There is a reason police officers are on the roads, spying on people or just cruising an area in their cruiser (police car). The reason is that they are law enforcers in basic terms. They catch people who disobey laws of the state. If a person is acting suspicious near a police car, doing something weird and possibly against the law, the police officer will come up and talk to the guy. People on the street who just got out from a bar are usually drunk and act a little weird. There are not doing anything bad, they are just walking awkwardly. The police officer sees them and keeps his eye on them until they turn a corner or go out of sight. If a person who just got away from jail due to acceptable behavior, he is on parole. Parole means being watched by a police officer for a certain time period. If the person does something illegal, he blew his chance and will go back to jail because he is not trusted. Security guards are like supervisors for police officers that keep an eye on a certain public areas for suspicious actions, such as a mall. Law enforcers keep the general public as safe as possible being protected from bad people.

Chapter 18: How to do tasks

Knowledge of how that’s done (404)

Every person living in this world accomplishes many things in life. They need to know how to accomplish that task before doing it. Here are some things that people accomplish in life.

Practice makes perfect (405)

Practicing to do something means you do it again and again until you get it right, or very close to right. Let me give an example; Alex is a person who just got to America from his home country, Russia. He only knows the basic words in the English language such as hi, bye, good, bad, nice, etc. He talks with a strong accent with many grammatical errors. What he has to do is practice his English so he can know more words and know how to put them in sentences properly. Practicing a language is hard, so practicing it means lining the steps up from easiest to hardest.

Basics (406)

How is Alex going to learn the English language the right way? He will have to start with the basics of learning the language. He already knows some basic words. He just has to know how to put them in sentences the right way. If he didn’t know the English language at all, its recommended that he should go to an English language class for foreigners. The teacher in that class usually speaks the language Alex speaks, Russian. The teacher would also be fluent in the English language. Now she can use the Russian language to teach the English language for Russian people. This is called translation from one language to another.

Sign language (407)

Everybody understands sign language. If Alex attended a English class with a teacher who doesn’t speak Russian, the teacher would use gestures and body movements to illustrate an action, otherwise called sign language. Say the teacher made a body movement by extending their hand and pointing with it at the chalkboard. The Russians in the class know what that movement is in their language, “the teacher is pointing at the chalkboard.” The teacher will then pronounce the words describing that action verbally. The students are familiar with that action, they just have to say it. Sign language can illustrate the English alphabet by using specific hand gestures and/or patterns.
