2. Злочин належиться виключно нижчим шарам суспільства. І я ані на крихту не осуджую їх за це. Мені здається, для них злочин – те саме, що для нас мистецтво: просто засіб збудження відчуття.

3. Він мовчки зітхнув, а потім пройшовся по кімнаті і погладив голову рідкісного яванського папуги. Птах був великий, з сірими крильми і рожевим чубком та хвостом.

4. Ці слова вразили мене своїм драматизмом. Мрячна днина, неоковирна постать християнина в дощовику, півколо хворобливих блідих облич і ця розкішна думка, що шпурнув у повітря пронизливий, істерикуватий голос.
