Tensions between North and South Korea began in 1953. U.S. Army Second Infantry Division are located on the Korean peninsula. This created a controversy and led to numerous clashes. In 1956 North Korea began to produce nuclear technology, but in 1960, Rhee Syngman (President of South Korea) was overthrown, and came to power, General Park Chung-hee, after which North Korea began to seek to conclude a mutual defense treaty with the Soviet Union and China.

Perhaps the two most important factors in trying to obtain North Korea's nuclear weapons were the Cuban Missile Crisis (the Cuban Missile Crisis) in October 1962. and prospects for US-Japan-South Korean alliance since 1965, the establishment of diplomatic relations between the ROK and Japan.

Pyongyang could no longer afford to maintain their military position, and North Korean leaders are seeking to improve relations with the United States, the only power retained their power after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Since the early 1990s, during the first nuclear crisis, North Korea is seeking to conclude a nonaggression pact with the United States. However, in 1998 conducted its first test of a ballistic missile.

November 19, 2006 Minju Joson (one newspaper of North Korea) has accused South Korea in the development of weapons for an attack on the DPRK.

May 25, 2009 North Korea conducted a second nuclear test. A year earlier, Korea has entered the top eight countries of the owners of nuclear power in the world. [6]

North Korea has conducted two operations of the reactor, located in the Yongbyon Nuclear Scientific Research Center. His first reactor (IRT-2000) North Korea, established in 1967 that eight years later was used as an experimental platform for the separation of plutonium. The main problem of this reactor was the acquisition of sufficient fuel for continuous operation. March 12, 1993 North Korea has said it plans to withdraw from the NPT and the IAEA inspectors to restrict access to its nuclear facilities. North Korea is waiting for assistance from other states to develop nuclear reactors, the U.S. denied them in this. At the end of 2002, North Korea returned to using their old reactors. [6]
